Lee Dewyze attended an alternative high school but states that music and his teachers were his inspiration to go back to his studies. Before Idol, DeWyze worked as a paint salesclerk. His musical influences include Cat Stevens, Eric Clapton, Ben Harper, and Simon & Garfunkel.
DeWyze's career began when he was 16 or 17, after he met Louis Svitek, owner of WuLi Records, and Ryan McGuire of the Virginia Gentlemen. Lee DeWyze auditioned in Chicago for the ninth season of American Idol with the song "Ain't No Sunshine", which was also covered by Kris Allen. During Hollywood week, his group included Aaron Kelly and Crystal Bowersox, who all made it into the Top 24. During the first week, he performed "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol, which was praised by Simon Cowell. The next week he sang "Lips of an Angel", which did not get the same response as his first performance but was good enough to get him into the top 16. His third song, "Fireflies", came as a surprise and was generally liked by the viewers, critics, and the judges.
After making it to the Top 12, DeWyze performed Beast of Burden during The Rolling Stones week. For the Top 11's theme, Billboard #1 Hits, DeWyze performed The Letter by the The Box Tops. The following week DeWyze performed Treat Her Like a Lady impressing mentor Usher and all four judges including Cowell who said that "This is the night that your life may have changed forever." For the Top 9 week Lee performed Hey Jude by The Beatles. His closest friend is his fellow roomate, Andrew Garcia.

And you woke up in my arms
And the rain and the rain and the rain
Was falling down trickled off our finger tips, oh oh
Felt like the earth stood still when I kissed your lips
I get chills chills chills just thinking about this
You were melting into me
It was the kind of moment that only time could kill
It was the perfect day, the day the earth stood still
The day the earth stood still
Another night goes by
Without you by my side
Oh and I dream and I dream and I dream
That we're back, that were back to where we were
Take me back to here we were
Felt like the earth stood still when I kissed your lips
I get chills chills chills just thinking about this
You were melting into me
And I was melting into you
It was the kind of moment that only time could kill
It was the perfect day when the earth stood still
Do you ever think of me when you're lying there alone?
Do you know, do you know what I'm going through?
'Cause I cant seem to let it go, and I wonder if you know, if you know
That a part of me is still waiting for you
Felt like the earth stood still when I kissed your lips
I get chills chills chills just think about this
You were melted into me, and I was melting into you
It was the kind of moment only time could kill
It was the perfect day, the day the earth stood still
The lyrics of Lee DeWyze's song, Earth Stood Still, tell a story of a perfect moment shared between two individuals, a moment so special that it felt like time had stopped. The song opens with the two falling asleep under the stars, and the singer waking up to find the other person in his arms with rain falling around them. The rain "trickled" off their fingertips as they held one another. The singer then goes on to describe how "the earth stood still" when he kissed the other person - a moment that still sends chills down his spine. In this moment, they were both melting into each other, sharing an electrifying connection that felt like it could last forever. It was the "perfect day" - a day where nothing else in the world mattered except for being with one another.
However, this perfection was fleeting. The singer reflects on how time could "kill" such a moment, and it was a moment that only time could kill. In the chorus, he asks if the other person ever thinks of him when they are alone - a question that suggests he is no longer with this person, and the relationship has ended. The singer shares his struggle with letting go and moving on, wondering if the other person knows what he's going through. He ends with a reminder of the perfect day they shared - a day where the earth stood still, and everything seemed perfect.
Overall, the lyrics of Earth Stood Still capture the essence of a powerful, unforgettable moment shared between two people. It speaks to the universal desire for finding that one perfect day where everything falls into place, and the world feels as though it stops turning. Even when that perfection is gone, the memory of it is something that can stay with us forever, a reminder of the connection we once had with someone else.
