The band formed by accident in 1989 (see 1989 in music), when a local band, the Salmon Heads, asked some members of the Left Hand String Band to fill some missing spots in its lineup. The synergy worked and the result was Leftover Salmon.
After the independent release of Bridges to Bert in 1993 (see 1993 in music) and the 1995 (see 1995 in music) live follow-up Ask The Fish, Leftover Salmon gained a spot on the H.O.R.D.E. festival tour and a contract with Hollywood Records. Their 1997 Hollywood debut and second studio album, Euphoria, continued to define their eclectic sound and introduced many songs that would become classics for the band.
In March of 2002 (see 2002 in music) founding member and banjoist Mark Vann lost his battle with cancer. He was later replaced by Noam Pikelny.
A documentary film of Leftover Salmon, titled "Years In Your Ears," was released on DVD in November 2006.
Baby Hold On
Leftover Salmon Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Baby hold on, I'm coming home to you
You know it's been so long
since we danced by the light of the moon
Well, I just can't wait to see you smiling again
So baby hold on - I'm going to be home soon
All the time I'm away, you're always on my mind
Every hour of the day, I can remember how fine
There's so much I want to say to you, so much to feel
As the sky turns grey to blue, two days behind the wheel
Chorus
Verse 2:
Every time I hear your voice on the telephone line
I can make it just one more day knowin' that you're still mine
No one else in the whole wide world can love me like you do
Gonna be in your arms again, before the night is through
Chorus
The song 'Baby Hold On' by Leftover Salmon specifically explores the theme of a long-distance relationship. The song is essentially an anthem for all those folks who are forced to spend time away from their loved ones. It is about a singer who is far away from his lover and is missing her all the time. The words of the song seem like a pledge the singer is making to his lover that he will soon be home to meet her, spend some quality time with her and dance by the light of the moon, just like they used to.
In the first verse, the singer describes how he is always thinking about his lover, and he has so much to tell her when he returns. He tells of how the two-day journey seems long and tiring while he is driving to be with her. In the second verse, he emphasizes how hearing her voice on the telephone can sustain him for a day until he sees her again. He acknowledges how his lover's love is unique and that nothing else can replace it. Throughout the song, the singer reassures his lover that he will be with her soon and how he can't wait to see her smile again.
Overall, 'Baby Hold On' is a heartfelt love song that delves deep into the emotions of two lovers separated by distance but still holds onto each other's love. It is an expression of commitment, love, and longing, and the singer highlights how nothing could be better than being with his lover.
