I Was Made for Dancin'
Leif Garrett Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You got me rollin' like a wheel on the road
Turnin' round and round, nowhere to go
I've got to find out if you're feeling it, too
It's hard to tell, so here's what I do
And everytime I want more
I'll take you out on the floor

I was made for dancin'
All-all-all, all night long
I was made for dancin'
All-all-all, all night long

The days and nights are moving by me and you
You're such a crazy love, you tear me in two
I spend my time moving to dreams and a phase
It's a crazy love, you can see it in my face
And everytime I want more
I'll take you out on the floor

I was made for dancin'
All-all-all, all night long (yeah)
I was made for dancin'
All-all-all, all night long

I was made for dancin'
All-all-all, all night long
I was made for dancin'
All-all-all, all night long

Ah-hah, dancin'
I was made for dancin', ah-hah
I was made for dancin', dancin', dancin'

I was made for dancin'
All-all-all, all night long (yeah)
I was made for dancin'
All-all-all, all night long

Oh, I was made for dancin'
All-all-all, all night long (yeah)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Leif Garrett's song I Was Made For Dancing are about the power and joy of dancing. The singer rolls like a wheel on the road and turns round and round, feeling like they have nowhere to go. They want to connect with someone else and see if they're feeling the same way, but it's hard to tell. So they take the other person out on the floor and dance the night away, because that's what they were made for. The dance becomes a release for their crazy love, tearing them in two but also bringing them together in a shared experience.

At its core, the song is about the transformative power of dancing. It's a universal urge to move our bodies and express ourselves through rhythm and movement. Dancing becomes a way to connect with others, to feel free and alive, to let go of our worries and lose ourselves in the moment. As Garrett sings, "I was made for dancin', all night long." It's a testament to the joy that dancing can bring, and how it can make us feel alive in a way that nothing else can.

Overall, I Was Made For Dancing is a catchy and upbeat song that celebrates the power of dance to bring people together and make them feel alive. The song is about letting go, living in the moment, and experiencing the transformative power of rhythm and movement. Listening to Kiss, Aerosmith or Black Sabbath, then dancing to The Bee Gees, KC and and the Sunshine Band or Leif at a disco... that’s how we rolled in 1978...

@robinchesterfield42

As someone who likes rock AND disco...that sounds perfectly fine to me!
(Mind you I was 4 when this song came out, but later on I ended up liking both genres. Heh.)

@da324

I do like Boogie Shoes and a few Bee Gees tunes, never been in a disco back in the day. The other bands you mentioned, different story, we lived that genre.

@Apollo_Blaze

I agree...and I totally loved Rock and Disco in those days....no need to like only one. Those were some fun times.
