I miss that foreign country where at least on TV we cared about it each other. This ad for American Airlines brought back that feeling if only for a moment. Thanks much to the ad agency that ran this campaign for AA. They did a great job! (& took me away from today's mess if only for a moment!)

I miss these days. It’s so unfamiliar flying nowadays. Even on AA my favorite airline. I remember boarding American Flights and seeing “747 Luxury Liner” on the panel next to the door of the beautiful silver planes and everyone was so friendly. Why can’t things be like they were? 😢😢

Low fares after that, but also low service, legroom, smiles and now you get Spirit.

Agreed. Its still there, but a rarity. A young FA came up to me on a flight and thanked me for being a rewards member, even though I was in coach. I was pleasantly surprised.

Ah... institutionals. I remember when companies did this.

From a strictly advertisingish standpoint, I think this is the best American spot from the modern age --- largely because nothing new enough to be HD uses this theme. It's probably tied with stewardess/cat/60 overall (and I'm assuming that's enough tag for people watching this spot. :-))

The MD-80s were nice, they came later than this commercial - in 1983. Seen in the video are a somewhat rare 727-100 and the DC-10 at the end.

@Nancy is not H4ll it’s just changed into multiple Yes/no opinions which are hostilely rude. I fly AMERICAN out of Dallas and thankfully they’ve treated us (surprisingly my whole family!) like queens, kings it’s so hard to believe. I’m flying first class this summer (6/25-🎁) and it’s from SHV-den round trip but with layovers. Can’t wait for this! AA employees need a lot of respect, it’s not their fault it’s the passengers unacceptable behavior. As a 14 year old, I really respect these ppl and anyone else, if you say “Its now 🔥” you might be making them sad, but I rlly praying for them. AMERICAN no matter what! Always an airline I go to! I don’t care about anything! I will be thankful. Stop complaining people and respect!

Pinkie pie Fan not really. It’s more like USAIR. They took over American after the bankruptcy and changed it so it was less like the old American and more like cut rate USAIR. Service is poor, meals have gotten so bad it’s disgusting. Maybe COVID 19 will make management come to its senses and bring back the “old” American Airlines!

Funny, but I don't remember ever flying American Airlines (I've been flying since the 1970s so that covers a lot of years!) Maybe because I live in Atlanta I usually default to Delta - with a few others thrown in here or there - but to my knowledge I've never flown AA.

I can REMEMBER how things have changed! The days when you could see someone off or greet their arrival right at the gate - those were the days. I remember when there was a smoking section on the plane, too. LONG time ago.

I was a child then, flying 'unaccompanied' to visit my dad. And even though a cross-country flight was special occasion enough, the crews really did provide those little extras to make us feel worthwhile. The menus and the dampened linen cloths before dinner, the set-of-wings pins given to young passengers, the friendly manner that felt sincere. And most passengers added to that ambiance by dressing for travel. Now most (except for the really young) just seem to treat air travel as an ordeal, and the plane itself as their living room. I know that has everything to due with overcrowding and decreased amenities and the post- 9/11 'new normal', but it still saddens me.

I remember when American airlines used to advertise we spent a million dollars a day cleaning our airplanes and had a picture of a trash can say we do we don't fly trash cans or something but million dollars a day unbelievable now they just say pick up the big stuff and go that passengers don't care about dropping a table tray if they're dirt on there or drink spill they just want to get to where they're going on time I say in the wrong somebody that saved up for a family for a year or two to go to on vacation 567,000 and they're excited and they're going to Disney world and the kids get on there and everybody gets on there and they drop the table tray and there's coatesville everywhere and peanuts in the sea or chips all over the floor and they were used to tell us let it Go boredom we got to go pick up big newspapers and go they do care they don't want that they want a few more minutes to have a clean seat it's sad with this airliners done today really is they don't care like they used to

Yes,society has degenerated to utterly low levels and basic decency has all but disappeared from sight. I remember flying both AA and TWA back in the 70s and 80s..much more refined ckientele,well-dressed and well-mannered,and in-flight meals were superb! The America I knew as a young adult back then is almost unrecognizable..God help our beleaguered and wounded nation!🙏🇺🇸

Please stop nostalgizing about how much better flying was in those days. By 1982, we were four years into the de-regulation of the airlines and everyone was complaining that fares were far more expensive, airports were overcrowded, the smaller cities had lost their best service. Things always seem better when we are looking at advertisements, but c'mon folks.
