Blue Suede Shoes
Lemmy & The Upsetters With Mick Green Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, it's one for the money
Two for the show
Three to get ready
Now go, cat, go

But don't you
Step on my blue suede shoes
You can do anything
But stay off of my blue suede shoes

Well, you can knock me down
Step in my face
Slander my name
All over the place

Do anything that you want to do
But uh-uh, honey
Lay off of my shoes
Don't you step on my blue suede shoes
Well, you can do anything
But stay off of my blue suede shoes

Let's go, cat!
Ah, walk the dog

You can burn my house
Steal my car
Drink my liquor
From an old fruit jar

Do anything that you want to do
But uh-uh, honey
Lay off of my shoes
And don't you
Step on my blue suede shoes
Well, you can do anything
But stay off of my blue suede shoes

Ah, get
Yeah

Well, it's one for the money
Two for the show
Three to get ready
Now go, cat, go!

But don't you
Step on my blue suede shoes
Well, you can do anything
But stay off of my blue suede shoes

Well, it's
Blue, blue
Blue suede shoes
Blue, blue
Blue suede shoes, yeah!
Blue, blue
Blue, suede shoes, baby
Blue, blue
Blue suede shoes

Well, you can do anything
But stay off of my blue suede shoes!

Overall Meaning

The song "Blue Suede Shoes" by Lemmy & The Upsetters with Mick Green is a classic rock and roll anthem about the importance of preserving one's personal belongings. The lyrics are straightforward: the singer warns anyone and everyone not to step on his blue suede shoes, which are clearly a prized possession. The repetition of the phrase "you can do anything / but stay off of my blue suede shoes" drives the point home, while also allowing for various scenarios in which someone might want to infringe on the shoes - including knocking the singer down, slandering his name, or even stealing his car. The energetic delivery of the lyrics and the musical accompaniment make the song a timeless classic that still gets people up and dancing today.

@johncarlo7395

Absolute master of the Telecaster, but when I first saw JK and the Pirates, Mick was using either a red Les Paul junior with a single PU, P-90 or an SG Junior, I can't remember what one it was now, through a Fender amp with a metal cone speaker and it sounded fuckin' awesome.
