Lifetime Achievement Award
Lemon Demon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Die hard fans adored your hands
They loved your throat and quote unquote "you"
Hey, remember Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson really happened
Delta Echo Alpha Delta, walking on the moon forever

You are dead and buried, you are dead (Oh no)
That's being revised!
Even as we speak we're synthesizing blood and organs
Synthesizing heart and soul
Even Katy Perry knows you're dead (Oh no)
Won't she be surprised!
When we get your heart to start tomorrow
When you see the chart tomorrow you'll be number one

Bro, you look amazing
Really put together
It's like you haven't aged a day, oh
It's like we know what we're doing or something

You've been gone for way too long, like half a year
An entire career for some
Good luck getting into Heaven if you live past 27
Listen to the radiation put you back in circulation

You are dead and buried, you are dead (Oh no)
Oh, but you never died!
Even as we speak we're synthesizing blood and organs
Synthesizing heart and soul
Ain't no cemetary you can't shed (Oh no)
Ain't nowhere you can hide!
Don't be frightened of us
Soon enough you're gonna love us, just remember

This is your last ride ever, forever
Fill up your lungs, feel better
Look, it's you, good as new
New hands, new throat, new living tissue
You earned this new purpose
Lifetime achievement award

Don't be nervous baby
We put a billion eyes back on you
From the grave to the stage
You're a natural, babe!

(Oh no, oh no)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Lemon Demon's song Lifetime Achievement Award tell a story of a deceased celebrity being brought back to life through the process of synthetic biology, which involves synthesizing their blood, organs, heart, and soul. The song considers how fans and the media consume celebrities - even after they have died - and the lengths to which people might go to ensure that their fame and memory last forever.

The opening lines "Die hard fans adored your hands / They loved your throat and quote unquote 'you'" suggest that fans place a great deal of admiration on celebrities and the unique qualities that made them famous. The song then references Michael Jackson, acknowledging his iconic status as a performer, while also highlighting how the media and the public scrutinize celebrities and their legacies. The line "Good luck getting into Heaven if you live past 27" is a nod to the infamous "27 Club," a group of musicians who died at the age of 27, which includes Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Kurt Cobain, among others. The song ultimately suggests that even in death, celebrities cannot escape the pressures of fame and the desire for their names to live on.

The chorus of the song repeats the refrain "Even as we speak we're synthesizing blood and organs / Synthesizing heart and soul," emphasizing the central theme of the song and the idea of using scientific advancements to bring back the dead. The line "This is your last ride ever, forever" refers both to the idea of a celebrity "comeback" tour and to the finality of death - an ironic juxtaposition that highlights the absurdity of trying to bring someone back from the dead.

Overall, Lifetime Achievement Award is a provocative commentary on the cult of celebrity, our obsession with fame and immortality, and the boundaries between life and death.

@freshcupofangst

Lol mistakes like this happen, don’t worry abt it. Honestly a mix-up like this kinda fits the vibe of the album imo.

As for cabinet man, I’ve always seen the ending part as going something like this:

(1) the person sees the blood and realizes what they’ve done, or at least that they’ve messed up, since I doubt they could correctly guess the situation and not just like, freak out when seeing an arcade machine bleed. I see the song calming down here as like a “oh shit” moment

(2) chorus repeats, stronger and more menacing. Cabinet Man uses the last of his strength to kill his attacker

(3) song finishes and cabinet man bleeds out and dies alongside his enemy

This song aged spectacularly in the age of dead actors being recreated with AI and CGI. And the age of AI-generated speech and images.

indeed

@jupitersorbit9314

They don't even have to be dead anymore. Some companies want to take scans of background actors, pay them for one day of work, and then use those scans to recreate them so they can use their likeness for free, indefinitely.

@CATel_

@jupitersorbit9314 thats fucking scummy?

A one time payment and an infinite usage?

Thats like paying for a plane seat and having fuel and other expenses provided to you for free forever..
