Well, it turns out, Lennon and Maisy Stella (who play Maddie and Daphne, respectively), are sisters in real life as well as on the show! The girls, ages 13 and 8, shot to internet stardom when their acappella cover of Robyn’s “Call Your Girlfriend” went viral back in May. To date, the video has been viewed over 9 million times, and their YouTube channel has garnered over 20 million as a whole.
Since then, the girls have been fielding calls from Amy Poehler and the band OK Go, hoping to set up collaborations. But perhaps the most career-making call was the one they received from ABC.
Though the original pilot of Nashville was filmed with daughters 6- and 8-year-old, the creators couldn’t pass up the opportunity when they heard little Maisy sing. Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, producer R.J. Cutler recalls the chain of events. “When Maisy auditioned for us, we were completely blown away. Then she told us she had a 13-year-old sister named Lennon and that the two of them often sang together. So we asked them both to come in and audition.” Clearly, it was the right decision.
“We decided on the spot to change the roles to fit Maisy and Lennon's ages,” Cutler explains. “Listening to them sing literally brought tears to our eyes. We knew we had to cast them — and this was months before they posted that video on YouTube."

Give your reasons, say it's not her fault
But you just met somebody new
Tell her not to get upset,
Second guessing everything you said and done
And when she gets upset tell her
How you never meant to hurt no one
And tell her that the only way her heart will mend
But it won't make sense right now
'Cause you're still her friend and that you let her down easy
Call your girlfriend, I think it's time you talked (time you talked)
Give your reasons, (ohhh) say it's not her fault
But you just met somebody new
And tell her when I give you something
That you never even knew you missed
Don't even try and explain
How it's so different when we kiss
And tell her that the only way her heart will mend
Is when she learns to love again
But it won't make sense right now
'Cause you're still her friend and that you let her down easy
In Lennon Stella and Maisy Stella's song "Call Your Girlfriend," the lyrics describe a conversation that needs to take place between a person and their current partner to inform them about falling in love with someone else. The first step in this process is to call the girlfriend and have a talk about the situation. The singer encourages the person to tell their partner that they met someone new and that it's not their fault. The song points out the importance of letting the partner know they are not to blame for the situation.
The lyrics also reveal that the situation is not easy and will cause confusion and hurt feelings. The person needs to explain that they never meant to hurt anyone, but they need to move on, and that the girlfriend needs to learn to love again. The song recognizes that this won't make sense in the moment because the two parties are still friends, but it's important to let her down easy. This song addresses a tough situation many people may experience in their lives and encourages empathy and understanding for both parties involved.
