Blues For Sister Someone
Lenny Kravitz Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
By sticking needles in her vein
Oh Lord what a shame
She's got no money so she turns tricks
And plays dirty games
Oh Lord spare her pain
What she says she do to you
The bathroom stall, her bedroom
The one that's always engaged
She sleeps and eats with the plague
She's got a baby in her belly
But she just don't care
What will be come of the pair
Oh Lord what can she do
To get the shit out of her hair
To get the shit out of her hair
Blues for sister someone
Oh Lord
The lyrics to "Blues For Sister Someone" by Lenny Kravitz paints a vivid picture of a woman who is dealing with addiction, prostitution, and possibly even a sexually transmitted disease. She lives in squalor and has no regard for her own life or the life growing inside her. The song expresses a sense of despair and pity for the singer of the song.
The opening line, "I know a girl who gets off by sticking needles in her vein," immediately sets the mood for the song, and the desperation in Kravitz's voice as he sings the words "Oh Lord what a shame" perfectly captures the feeling of helplessness and sadness that comes with watching someone succumb to addiction. The chorus, "Blues for sister someone, oh Lord," highlights the sense of mourning and sadness that surrounds the woman's situation.
The lyrics in "Blues For Sister Someone" are a poignant reminder of the struggle that so many people face with addiction, and the hopelessness that can come with it. It encourages empathy, understanding, and hope for those who are struggling with addiction.
