Dancin' Til Dawn
Lenny Kravitz Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm going out of my mind
'Cause the way that she winds...is truly divine
She takes her time as she approaches me
Then she gives me the sign as she moves her behind
That only God would design
Like a bullet from a gun the dj makes a run
When she feels a beat my baby
I can't get her off the floor
She keeps me dancin' 'til dawn
The lights are low
She likes to dance for me
It's making me high 'cause the look in her eye
Is hot as July
Hey
The night is young, gold bar's the place to be
The music is right cause the dj is tight
Zappa into Barry White, yeah!
[Chorus x6]
In his song "Dancin' Til Dawn," Lenny Kravitz describes the captivating effect that a woman has on him as she dances. He acknowledges that the way she moves and specifically the way she winds, is truly divine and speaks to him in a unique way. Kravitz describes her approach towards him as slow and methodical, building anticipation as he waits for her next move. When she finally gives him the sign and moves her behind, he is in complete awe of her beauty and the gracefulness of her movements.
The chorus highlights the intense effect that music has on the woman, and how it compels her to dance until dawn. The DJ is compared to a bullet from a gun, as he rapidly switches between tracks to keep up with the woman's rhythmic movements, ensuring that she never stops dancing. Kravitz is impressed by the DJ's ability to maintain the energy of the room and keep the party alive, despite the late hour.
Overall, "Dancin' Til Dawn" is a song that celebrates dance as a form of expression and release. Kravitz portrays the woman as an almost mystical figure, who he can't take his eyes off of as she dances with abandon. The song paints a vivid picture of a lively nightclub, where people come to unwind and enjoy themselves, and the music is the driving force behind it all.
