I Want To Go Home
Lenny Kravitz Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Will I ever get to see my unborn child
Will I ever get to live my own dreams
Cause this hell where I am now just ain't for me
If I could just kiss you goodnight... Oh
[Chorus]
I wanna... I wanna go home
I wanna... I wanna go home
I just wanna get along with my life
Will I have to take a life does that make peace
They say it's in the name of god that I'm a beast
I don't wanna stay out here another day... Oh
I'm just trying to get back home in any way
How I miss all the good times... Ya ya
[Chorus]
I wanna... I wanna go home
I just wanna get along with my life
I wanna... I wanna go home
I just wanna get along with my life
I wanna... I wanna go home
I just wanna get along with my life... Oh
I wanna (I wanna be)... I wanna go home (I wanna be)
I just wanna get along (oh) with my life
I wanna go home
I wanna get along with my life
I wanna go home
I wanna get along with my life
I... I miss you babe
The lyrics of Lenny Kravitz's song "I Want To Go Home" express a deep longing for escape from a dark and oppressive situation. The singer is in a state of desperation, unsure if they will make it out alive or ever see their unborn child. They question the morality of violence and the twisted religious justifications used to justify it. They just want to leave this place and return to the comfort and safety of home. The repeated chorus emphasizes this desire, driven home by Kravitz's passionate vocals.
The song can be interpreted in many ways, but one possible reading is as a commentary on war and violence. The singer is possibly a soldier or combatant trapped in a conflict they didn't choose, struggling to survive and haunted by memories of happier times. The religious references suggest that faith can be exploited to justify terrible acts, and that the singer may be grappling with their own sense of morality and purpose.
Overall, "I Want To Go Home" is a powerful and moving song that speaks to the universal human desire for safety, comfort, and love in the face of strife and suffering.
