I was in high school, it was 1964, and the girl that I had been going with, for a long time, Carol, the one meant for me, I loved her so much. She broke up with me after school one day, and I was devastated. I went home, went into my bedroom, dropped my school books on my desk, and just sat down on my bed and turned on the radio, WABC-AM out of NYC, a song came on that I had never heard before; Lenny Welch, "Since I Fell For You". I cried through the whole song as I lay out on my bed feeling deep pain and emotion like I had never felt before. It was like a right of passage, I learned for real what was meant by the phrase, "Singing the Blues." and wow! that was a blues song, sung like I had never heard before, to me it is the ultimate Blues Song. At the time, I felt he was actually singing every word directly to me. It was an exquisite and poignant experience and I still shed a tear whenever I listen to his fabulous recording.

I wondered then, "Would I ever love someone so much that it hurts in my lifetime? I did--they didn't. I loved Anne all through High School. She rejected me and married another. She even invited me to her wedding, knowing that it would kill me to go. I did go, but I sat in my car at a distance, and saw the most beautiful Angel in white on this earth walk down the steps of the church, and walk out of my life. Years passed and decades later she did come back to me when her marriage was over, and apologized to me. We could not go back though, too much time had passed for us as she had changed and I had changed and we lived in a world very different than that of yesterday. They found her home alone one day, dead of an overdose. As I lay flowers on her grave today I remember this beautiful song, and a beautiful girl named Anne--RIP

My life long friend just lost his dear wife. Our families were very close. His loss is our loss. I played this song when I heard the expected news.Thought it reflected my friends recent loss. Lenny is singing of one that lost his love ....love causes such 'misery and pain'. My friend was crying to me that his wife is gone when I called him . It is heartbreaking. Since the 3rd grade till 7th, I bought her a rose, told her my feelings, it wasn't enough. she went for the "hot" guys. I eventually fell for a girl named Raquel. I made my feelings known. I rarely talk to her now, but we sometimes made a smile or an occasional hi. Jimmy, I still have the rest of my life to live to experience the good and the bad. I learned from Kayla that if you're in love with someone, they will not love you back. Raquel even said she loved me, I said I love you too that day. I talked to Mr. Welch five years ago on the phone, to tell him how much I loved "Since I Fell..." He was wonderfully humble and generous, and said he was singing on Alaskan cruise ships. Truly, along with Etta's "At Last" and Tommy Edward's "It's All in the Game", his "Since I Fell For You" should be included in every space ship we send out into space to impress upon distant species of the advanced state of our evolution.

My dad was stationed at Fort Dix with Lenny Welch. He absolutely loved the song of course but said he was such a good guy. My dad gone now but this was on his favorite mix CD of songs. This has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. It's like the instruments and the singer became one. You KNOW there must have been some crying at the studio after this sing was recorded. How could you produce such vocal and instrumental beauty and not cry?

I had knee replacement surgery 3 days ago. Anyone who has been through it knows the recovery is brutal. I just wanted to hear something really, really beautiful to help me as I heal. This song gave that to me - in spades.

I was born in 75 and yes i know this song was created way before i was even born but I must say this is a very good n beautiful song. The melody and his voice is very touching. Its about listening to all variety of music and I will say there are songs from the 50's and 60's and 70's that is very good music but this song is one of the best. Love his voice

His big hit, a cover version of a big band standard, "Since I Fell for You," reached number 4 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1963, selling a million copies. His other hits included "Ebb Tide" and "You Don't Know Me. "He recorded the first vocal version of "A Taste of Honey" in 1962. Welch reimagined Neil Sedaka's "Breaking Up is Hard to Do" as a torch song, which became a Top 40 hit in 1970; Sedaka re-recorded the song in Welch's style for a Top Ten hit in 1975.

When they used to count down the hits, I remember this being # 2 behind Louie Louie. Ive always loved it and still do. I hadn't even experienced a broken heart at that point but it spoke to my soul as a young teen with no idea of the " misery and the pain" that awaited me in the future lol. Btw, i loved Louie Louie too.

This enchanting song moves my soul like only a great piece of art could. This song is awesome, I'm 77 now but I loved it as a 17 year old. Its in my play list and every time I hear it it makes me sad we didn't hear more from Lenny, so much talent. He did do a cover of another timeless song, can't remember what it was, so sorry we didn't hear more.

My world was shattered and I don't think I was ever able to pick up all the pieces and put them back together again.
