Sayer launched his career in the United Kingdom in the early 1970s, and became a top singles and album act on both sides of the Atlantic in the 1970s. His first seven hit singles in the United Kingdom all reached the Top 10 – a feat first registered by his first manager, Adam Faith. His songs have been sung by other notable artists, including Cliff Richard ("Dreamin'").
I Can't Stop Loving You
Leo Sayer Lyrics

In the morning
On the early train
I could say everything's alright
I could pretend and say good bye
Got your ticket
Got your suitcase
I could say that's the way it goes
I could pretend and you won't know
That I was lying
'Cause I can't stop loving you
I can't stop loving you
No, I can't stop loving you
Though I try
Took a taxi
To the station
Not a word was said
I saw you walk across the road
Maybe the last time, I don't know
Feeling humble
I heard a rumble
On the railway track
And when I hear the whistle blow
I walk away and you don't know
That I was lying
'Cause I can't stop loving you
No, I can't stop loving you
I can't stop loving you
Though I try
'Cause I can't stop loving you
I can't stop loving you
No, I can't stop loving you
Though I try
The lyrics of Leo Sayer's song, I Can't Stop Loving You, express the pain and heartbreak of a person who is about to lose their loved one. The song opens with the singer acknowledging that their partner is leaving in the morning, and they are struggling to come to terms with it. They consider the option of feigning acceptance, pretending that everything is all right when it's not, and saying a fake goodbye to their soon-to-be-departing lover. The singer then proceeds to describe how their lover is ready to go, with their ticket, suitcase, and a leaving smile, while they, on the other hand, are not prepared.
When the time comes for the departure, the singer follows their partner to the station and watches them as they walk away, possibly for the last time. They don't say anything, and there is no exchange of words. As their significant other boards the train, the singer realizes that it might be too late to fully express how they feel about them. They hear a rumble on the railway track, and the distant sound of the train's whistle signals their inevitable separation. At this point, the singer walks away, unable to express themselves, feeling both helpless and haunted by the thought of losing their love.
In the chorus, the singer admits their inability to stop loving their partner, notwithstanding their effort to try. They are forced to grapple with the reality that their heart is breaking, and there seems to be no going back from this pain.

Some songs just have that quality to stir our emotions ❤

I first heard this song as a little boy in 1980. It will always remain as emotional for the next 100 years just as it was when it was first released in the 70s. That's when music was realistic and meaningful. I'm blessed to have lived in such an era.
@Derwentcub
Tactile and very talented performer. I have seen him live three times, and his interaction with the audience was incredible. A real man of the people and caring guy.

This is also a cover. It isn't Sayer's either.

@KTK Thanks, I thought it's Leo Sayer's. Been lying to all my friends and my wife whenever they play Phil Collins' 🤭🤣🤣🤣
@Deshanhiralall
Phil Collins is a remarkable singer / song writer himself and for the fact that he covered a song of another musician it goes to show that Leo Slayer was a superior musician. The finest at the time.
@roadlizardcu8664
Actually his is a cover of Leo Sayers version which is also a cover of the original by White Horse.
