Loving You
Leona Lewis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You've been sad
You've been hiding so long
Don't be scared
Just you keep holding on
I've been there

Locked myself away
Can't bear to face another day
You're broken and ashamed
But if you search within yourself
You can

Learn to love you
And you learn to heal the pain
Let strength hold you
Let it shelter you from rain
Those shadows cast away your pride
Find the light that shines inside
Of you

So alone, it's so cold where you are
Close your eyes
Let the peace warm your heart
Free your spirit
Chase away your fears
And wipe away the lonely tears
Feel your courage near
Let it reach into your soul
And then

Learn to love you
And you learn to heal the pain
Let strength hold you
Let it shelter you from rain
Those shadows cast away your pride
Find the light that shines inside
Of you

I know you're hurting
Your walls are caving in
But in time you can make it
I know your troubles
Your world's diminishing
But just listen to the voice within
And then

Learn to love you
And you learn to heal the pain
Let strength hold you
Let it shelter you from rain
Those shadows cast away your pride
Find the light that shines inside
Of you

Learn to love you
And you learn to heal the pain
Let strength hold you
Let it shelter you from rain
Those shadows cast away your pride

Find the light that shines inside
Of you

Overall Meaning

But rather than telling them to pick themselves up and move on, she offers empathy and understanding, letting them know that she too has been there.

The bridge of the song is particularly moving, as the artist speaks directly to the listener and encourages them to find peace within themselves. She reminds them that they are not alone, and that their courage and strength will help them to overcome their troubles. The chorus repeats throughout the song, driving home the message that self-love and acceptance are essential in healing the pain and finding light in the darkness.

Minnie Riperton was the original preformer who co-wrote the song "Loving you" with her husband when they lived in Gainsville Florida. They moved back up north and preformed the song and they noticed that it resonated with the audiences they played it for; and when they released the song it was an immediate monster hit all over the world. Leonas version is good I'm OK with it, but I think Minnies Little girl voice is achingly beautiful and distinct, for me I've never heard anyone do it better.
