Lewis' debut single A Moment Like This became the fastest selling UK single after being downloaded over 50,000 times within thirty minutes of its release. Her second single, Bleeding Love, reached number one positions in over thirty singles charts around the world. In November 2008 she set a record in the UK for the fastest selling download-only release with her cover version of the Snow Patrol song Run which sold 69,244 copies in two days. Lewis's debut tour, The Labyrinth, started in 2010.
Lewis was born in the London Borough of Islington, to Aural Josiah "Joe" Lewis of Afro-Guyanese descent, and Maria Lewis of Welsh, Italian and Irish descent. Her parents enrolled her at the Sylvia Young Theatre School, and from there she attended the Italia Conti Academy and the BRIT School, where she learned to play instruments such as the guitar and piano, in the hope of becoming a singer-songwriter. Lewis wrote her first full-length song at the age of 12. She initially trained in opera, but went on to singing jazz and blues, eventually leading to popular music, citing Minnie Riperton, Eva Cassidy and Stevie Wonder as her main influences. After leaving the BRIT School at 17, she took a number of jobs to fund studio time, recording a demo album called Twilight. The album, almost exclusively comprising her own compositions, was recorded under Spiral Music, a production company based in Fulham. "I tried to secure a record deal by doing things my own way. I worked very hard but I never managed to land a contract", said Lewis. Other demos were recorded under licence from UEG Entertainment, later included on an album called Best Kept Secret. However, none of Lewis's demos were released and she considered taking a hiatus from her music career to attend university until her boyfriend persuaded her to enter The X Factor which subsequently severed her connections with UEG.
Songfacts says that Collide, the first single from Leona Lewis's third album finds her taking a more dance pop route than on her previous material. She said, "I'm excited for people to see a different side to my music. I'm a fan of so many different genres and styles. For me this song has all the great ingredients of a summer anthem." The song got its first play on Scott Mills' Radio One show on July 15, 2011 and will be released on September 4, 2011.
Lewis' third studio album, Glassheart, is due for release in 2012.
You Bring Me Down
Leona Lewis Lyrics

Thought i could count on you to be around
You bring me down, down, down way down
What is the problem
Are you taking me seriously
Is it a joke to you
Or maybe im a fool
Why am i trying
So hard to be the girl that you need
How is this fair to me
When you break through
This is to much
Dont call it love
You are the reason its so hard to trust
Boy this aint what i wanted
And now its got to stop
You let me down, cant fix you now
Thought i could count on you to be around
You bring me down, down, down way down
No more tears
Why did i let you have so much control
I gave my arm to you
And you pushed me away
Why are you here oh
Dont you see im letting you go
The damage is done baby
I have nothing to say
Its gone to far
Dont know who you are
I think its better that we are apart
Babe i know where i am
And i know where your near
You let me down, cant fix you now
Thought i could count on you to be around
You bring me down, down, down way down
You let me down, thought i had had found
Some one to catch me when i hit the ground
You bring me down, down, down way down (ooooh)
Would you like it if
I did the same thing to
You and i lasted
Walking years on ma shoes
Boy theres no excuse
Cause of what you did theres no me and you
Would you like it if
I did the same thing
You wouldnt of liked
Walking in time
Boy theres no excuse
Thats who you are and im so over you
You let me down, cant fix you now
Thought i could count on you to be around
You bring me down, down, down way down
You let me down, thought i had had found
Some one to catch me when i hit the ground
You bring me down, down, down way down
Down
Down
Stop bringing me, stop bringing me
Down down
Oooh
The lyrics to Leona Lewis's "You Bring Me Down" depict the emotional breakdown of a relationship. The singer expresses her disappointment and frustration towards her partner who had let her down despite her expectation that he would be there for her. She questions his level of commitment and whether he is taking her seriously. She also wonders if the relationship is a game to him, leaving her feeling confused and foolish. As the relationship progresses, she realizes that it is not what she wanted and decides to end it. The singer does not want to be held back by the pain of the past and attempts to move on by letting go of control and not allowing the partner's actions to define her.
This song is relatable to anyone who has experienced heartbreak and the difficulty in letting go of someone who they truly loved. The singer is caught between holding on to the hope that the relationship could work and accepting that it is not going to. The internal conflict adds to the relatability and emotion of the song. The repetition of the phrase “You bring me down” conveys the feeling of being weighed down by the relationship and how it is hindering her growth.
