Serenade
Leona Naess Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Waiting for my colors to shine
Swimming pools of broken fools
Whose love is deeper whose is true
I will contend my love for you
Eventually
Serenade my love
And I know yes, I know it's wrong to be so
Vigilant and so far gone
It goes on and on and on
Talking to myself
I won't be like the rest
No one sees what lives inside me
I can't even taste it myself
Eventually
Serenade my love
Is all I can do
And I know yes, I know it's wrong to be so
Vigilant and so far gone
It goes on and on and on
My love is as fierce as the seas
That swell and swallow the space between him
and me
Eventually
Serenade my love
Is all I can do
And I know yes, I know it's wrong to be so
Vigilant and so far gone
It goes on and on and on
The theme of the song "Serenade" by Leona Naess is unrequited love. The singer talks about waiting and hoping for her love to be returned, despite being aware that she is being obsessive and too vigilant. The lyrics "Clock watching and lounge listening, waiting for my colors to shine" convey that the singer is constantly waiting for her chance to be with the person she loves. She also talks about the confusion and pain of being in love with someone who doesn't feel the same and trying to convince herself that her love is as valid as anyone else's. The line "Talking to myself, I won't be like the rest" shows her trying to distance herself from other people's love and create a unique love story.
The chorus "Serenade my love, is all I can do" shows the desperation of the singer and her willingness to try anything to win over her love. However, she also acknowledges that it's wrong to be so vigilant and obsessed, as seen in the line "And I know yes, I know it's wrong to be so vigilant and so far gone." The singer's love is also portrayed as being consuming, with the lines "My love is as fierce as the seas, that swell and swallow the space between him and me."
Overall, "Serenade" is a song that captures the pain and confusion of unrequited love. It deals with the desire to be loved, the pain of waiting for that love to be returned, and the confusion that comes with being in love with someone who doesn't feel the same.
