As brilliant as all of the music and singing is in My Fair Lady. Leonard Weir's performance of On the Street Where You Live made me get up, go over to the console stereo, pick up the album cover and find out the name of the man singing this song. I have never forgotten his name since nor his crystal clear voice.

I had both albums of the original Broadway cast of my fair lady, they made one in 1956(when my grandparents saw the show) and one in 1959 (and the one when my grandparents took my mom to see the show), I believe the only different person was Freddy, and I have to say that Leonard Weirs rendition of this song is by and far, head and shoulders above the original Freddy played by John Michal King, who was solidly good, but Leonard Weir sounds amazing (which might have been the reason for the second recording of the cast album, as well as Julie Andrews in a much meatier and more difficult role as Eliza compared to her Broadway premiere in (I think she played Polly) the Boyfriend, and I can only imagine as great of an actor Rex Harrison is/was, how scared he must have been to be the leading man in a Broadway musical, since he had a range of three notes, and his speak singing style was something that has never been done before for a musical lead with so many songs to sing, so the pressure on him most have been enormous. maybe the combination of both of these magnificent actor/performers coming into their own as musical genius' and the addition of Leonard, compelled Lerner and Lowe to make a new Broadway album before the original run ended.

It's amazing that Rex Harrison was cast in this musical in which Julie dominates with her phenomenal talent! He could barely sing, but his stage and screen persona were sublime! If you know of and have followed Harrison's movie career, he plays Julius Caesar in the epic movie, Cleopatra, starring Liz Taylor.

So sorry to hear that Leonard Leah has passed away but I can't find a reference to it or any obituary in newspapers. All reference to him shows him as still being alive in 2022 aged 94 even Wikipedia and professional stage websites.

This version of this iconic song is a travesty compared to the Original Broadway Cast album featuring John Michael King and Franz Allers. Leonard Weir's singing and Cyril Ornadel's conducting are but cartoonish caricatures compared to the magnificence of John Michael King's voice and Franz Allers brilliant conducting.

Opinion noted, although its not a travesty! Lighten up, it was 60 years ago. Leonard Weir did very well in this West End production. I prefer John Michael Kings performance.
