Funeral
Leoniden Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A shaking house
On shaking ground
Is still a house
And it's ours
You found me in the trash
We fell in love with dirty hands
Our friend is dead
And it all comes down to this

You matter to me, I matter to you
We met at the funeral of the world
You matter to me, I matter to you
We met at the funeral of the world

Although we carry our coffins
To bury our hope
We fell in love at the funeral
Of the world
Although we carry our coffins
To bury our hope
We fell in love at the funeral
Of the world

I just wanna say
Thank you
For what you do
You're just being you
When this weight on my shoulders
Gets a hold of me
I get scared
That you don't feel the same
You don't feel the same
You don't feel the same
You don't feel the same
You don't feel the same
But you do feel the same

Although we carry our coffins
To bury our hope
We fell in love at the funeral
Of the world
Although we carry our coffins
To bury our hope
We fell in love at the funeral
Of the world

You matter to me, I matter to you
We met at the funeral of the world

You matter to me, I matter to you
We met at the funeral of the world

Overall Meaning

The Leoniden's song "Funeral" seems to be a love song that heavily deals with the concepts of mortality, grief and hope. The first stanza acknowledges the shaking of the ground and the instability of a house, yet something is still theirs. It then shifts to addressing a loved one that they found in the trash and fell in love with dirty hands. The last line speaks to their friend's death and everything coming down to it.

The chorus discusses the importance of each other to one another and how they met at the funeral of the world, possibly alluding to the end of the world being the funeral of a previous world. The lines "Although we carry our coffins to bury our hope" in the two stanzas could potentially refer to a loss of hope in the world or in their lives, but somehow they found love amidst the struggle of burying their hope.

The bridge expresses gratitude for the other person and who they are, yet there is also a bit of fear that the person they care for may not feel the same way. However, the repeated line "You don't feel the same" is counteracted by "But you do feel the same" at the end, possibly signifying a feeling of relief or affirmation of the love between them.

Overall, "Funeral" seems to portray a love story in a world that is being buried, where hope and stability are scarce. It shows how love can be found in the midst of chaos and grief, and how it can provide comfort and meaning in an uncertain world.
