Years ago I suffered from hard depressions... Coltrane's music was the thing that stopped me from quitting ultimately. I fought with myself, it was a tough but worth time. And in the end I am enjoying my life now as much as I never did and I am so glad that I continued. There are so many beautiful things in life, like Coltranes music and music in general.

I am studying music now in an university and now I am even playing the sax.
I want to bring people happiness like he did.

There's no denying his appeal & musicianship. Have one friend who is a serious fan, we've had nasty discussions, my fault. I just dont care for most of the more contemporary "smooth jazz", yes, there are exceptions. That period between the mid 1950's to the mid 1960's was fantastic. It was huge innovation & evolution right before your ears. As much as I adore John Coltrane, Im guilty of not caring for his very late albums, the " free jazz".

The last major chord part which begins at 9:58 has, without fail, made me cry ever since the first time I ever heard it. I try not to listen to this piece too often, just so I can really savour the moment for when I eventually get to it. It's like visiting a distant, cherished memory. Sometimes it's a single tear, sometimes I bawl my eyes out. I can never predict how I will react to it. Somehow it captures the spontaneity of life I suppose. This particular rendition of this piece, to me, reflects all my favorite things, just as the title would suggest. Pass it on, suggest it to someone who you think might need it. It can heal, it can remind you of what's good in life. It has most certainly helped me through dire times.

I grew up listening to rock music in the 70's and 80's … I was a rocker type. I inadvertently discovered jazz in the late 80s when I was in my mid 20s, a coworker at a job I worked made me a mix tape of 80's smooth-ish jazz. I struggled to "get it," but I was so intrigued that I kept listening, despite the challenge it was to fully appreciate jazz. It was so complicated and rhythmically "off," so unusual compared to what I was used to.

Lo and behold, almost 40 years later I am so crazy about this music, I love almost every style of jazz. It has been so worth it. I feel like I know jazz pretty well now, I have been actively seeking it out the whole time, yet I also feel like I am only on the cusp of really knowing jazz music, as it is SO WIDE A SPECTRUM OF MUSIC!!!! Its been a lifelong amazing challenge!!!

I’ve listened to this song quite often especially in college and as a grown man. Learning Jazz history gave me a challenge to stretch out my mind, body and spirit. It’s also a great new realm of study and learning that I assume personally as a grown man on May 2008. It’s also help me deal positively with my depression and disappointments in life. Learning how important life is and Jazz history has taught me that I can get through anything and accomplish anything in life. Also I went to a baseball game with this song in my head and heart. Thank God for the contribution of Jazz history and musicians of all races especially Black Americans when they were not allowed to read or write taught me how to be successful.

Agree that Coltrane does a masterful job, but I've been working up a version of this for awhile and I think that the original composition is brilliant. The repetition of the melody over vamps in minor and then major chord progressions is magical. It's a great favorite and I would love to see more jazz artists interpret it.

Back when I was a late teenager, I was a member of one of those record clubs - where they sent you a bunch of albums every month. Often I chose the ones I wanted, but if you didn't get them in time they would send out their own suggestions based on your listening. This was one of the albums that dropped, and one of the happiest accidents ever, starting a lifelong love of Coltrane for one thing, but even more so with McCoy Tyner. Sublime. Just sublime.

McCoy Tyner's piano solo starting at 2:20 is five minutes of sheer genius. I poached this album from my dad's collection. He and Miles Davis got me through high school and changed my life. Thank you, John and Miles. RIP

My 7 month old daughter has been listening to this for more than 7 months along with Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald & Billy Holiday. She knows her music!!! It's the only way to calm her down when she's moody.

Man, no one can just simply understand this at one single shot. At first, you must listen to every instrument by itself ignoring the others, just when you have listened to them all alone, you can hear the complete piece and finally behold the complete picture.

There is a reason that this is a jazz standard. It's one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard in my life. The musicians put their souls into this and I'm so happy that I'm not the only person that gets teary listening ... Not because it evokes feelings or memories of sadness. But because I feel I connect with the artists intention. There are few feelings better than that ... When I seemingly get into the mind of the creator and simply experience a glimpse of what they did at creation. Peace and light to all the music lovers ... ✌🏽

The delicious sounds that Tyner and Trane coax from their instruments here is musical bliss. Caressing the keys; melding as one with that exotic soprano...well, if I had to describe what jazz is with just one song, this would be it.
