In March 2011, Lynn released her debut solo album, Have You Met Lera Lynn?, to international acclaim. Hand picked from Lynn’s collection of songs written over the previous decade, the album elucidates a painstaking inventory of past experiences, as well as artistic challenges in her present pursuits, and her hopes for the future. Lynn won the 2011 Chris Austin Songwriting Competition held at Merlefest for her song, “Bobby, Baby,” sharing the honor with such alumni as Gillian Welch & Tift Merrit. “Bobby, Baby” also won an award for Best Alt. Country Song in the 10th Annual Independent Music Awards Vox Pop poll, which is determined not by judges but by online fan voting. Just as important to her, Lynn walked away with "Best Country Artist” at her hometown of Athens, GA's 2012 Flagpole Music Awards.
In 2014, Lynn began work on creating music for the second season of the critically acclaimed HBO crime drama series True Detective. Working with songwriter and music producer T Bone Burnett, the two collaborated with singer-songwriter Rosanne Cash at Burnett's home in Los Angeles. Regarding the experience, Lynn said, “Working on the soundtrack for True Detective with T Bone allowed me the freedom to really explore my dark side. And collaborating with Rosanne Cash was a dream come true." After approving the musical tracks, series creator Nic Pizzolatto cast Lynn as a recurring character who performs the songs in a dive bar frequented by the main characters.
I'm Your Fool
Lera Lynn Lyrics

I'm fearsome hanging myself on your love
Blood is pouring, you're still snoring
Darts are falling on me from above
I could die in your arms
You wouldn't even be alarmed
I could drown in your glass of wine
You'd never know the face was mine
Six lanes of traffic rolling on
Throwing myself straight into the wind
I'll flip or flop, I'll jump and tumble
Anything for you to let me in
I could die in your arms
You wouldn't even be alarmed
I could drown in your glass of wine
You'd never know the face was mine
I'm your fool
I'm your fool
In Lera Lynn's song "I'm Your Fool," she sings about being in a tumultuous and painful relationship with someone who she is utterly devoted to, despite the physical and emotional harm it has caused her. The opening line, "Your ancient hatchet broke my back," sets a dark tone for the rest of the song, implying that her lover has caused her irreparable harm. Despite this, she still longs to be with them and believes that they are worth the pain, singing "I'm fearsome hanging myself on your love."
The second verse is equally intense, with images of blood pouring and darts falling from above. Lynn continues to sing about how she would do anything for this person, even if it means risking her own life. The chorus repeats the refrain "I'm your fool" multiple times, reinforcing the idea that she is helplessly devoted to this person, no matter the cost.
Overall, the song paints a vivid and unsettling picture of a relationship that is both deeply passionate and deeply destructive. Lynn's vocals are haunting and powerful, perfectly capturing the intense emotions at the heart of the song.
