In March 2011, Lynn released her debut solo album, Have You Met Lera Lynn?, to international acclaim. Hand picked from Lynn’s collection of songs written over the previous decade, the album elucidates a painstaking inventory of past experiences, as well as artistic challenges in her present pursuits, and her hopes for the future. Lynn won the 2011 Chris Austin Songwriting Competition held at Merlefest for her song, “Bobby, Baby,” sharing the honor with such alumni as Gillian Welch & Tift Merrit. “Bobby, Baby” also won an award for Best Alt. Country Song in the 10th Annual Independent Music Awards Vox Pop poll, which is determined not by judges but by online fan voting. Just as important to her, Lynn walked away with "Best Country Artist” at her hometown of Athens, GA's 2012 Flagpole Music Awards.
In 2014, Lynn began work on creating music for the second season of the critically acclaimed HBO crime drama series True Detective. Working with songwriter and music producer T Bone Burnett, the two collaborated with singer-songwriter Rosanne Cash at Burnett's home in Los Angeles. Regarding the experience, Lynn said, “Working on the soundtrack for True Detective with T Bone allowed me the freedom to really explore my dark side. And collaborating with Rosanne Cash was a dream come true." After approving the musical tracks, series creator Nic Pizzolatto cast Lynn as a recurring character who performs the songs in a dive bar frequented by the main characters.

When I look into the glass, I see someone else
I hardly recognize this face I wear
When I stare into her eyes, I see no one there
Lately I'm not feeling like myself
Lately I've been losing all my time
All that mattered to me slipped my mind
strangers appear to lock me down
Lately I've been losing all my time
The mystery that no one knows
Where does love go when it goes?
Lately words are missing from now on
Vanished in the haze of love gone wrong
There's no future, there's no past
In the present, nothing lasts
Lately someone's missing from now on
The mystery that no one knows
Where does love go when it goes?
The mystery that no one knows
Where does love go when it goes?
In Lera Lynn's song "Lately", the singer expresses her feelings of disconnection from herself and those around her. The opening lines, "Lately I'm not feeling like myself/When I look into the glass, I see someone else," indicate a sense of dissociation from her own identity. She cannot recognize herself in the reflection and feels detached from the person she sees. This is further underscored by the following line, "When I stare into her eyes, I see no one there," suggesting a feeling of emptiness and lack of self-awareness.
The second verse of the song speaks to the singer's feeling of disconnection from time and the people around her. She feels like she has lost track of time and the things that were once important to her, and as she moves from place to place, strangers seem to want to claim her attention. The line, "Every time I hit another town/strangers appear to lock me down," adds to the sense of detachment and lack of control over her surroundings.
The final verse of the song speaks to the "mystery that no one knows" - where does love go when it goes? The lines, "There's no future, there's no past/In the present, nothing lasts" suggest a feeling of impermanence and uncertainty in relationships. The singer feels like someone is missing in her life, and this is reflected in her overall sense of disconnection and confusion.
Overall, "Lately" is a poignant and introspective song that explores themes of disconnection, loss, and uncertainty. The singer's evocative lyrics and poignant vocals make for a moving and powerful listening experience.

I love this song, when it aired on true detective I broke down in tears. It's how I lost my daughter just before she was to be greeted into our world. Tomorrow will be her 3rd birthday ♡

Vince Vaughns last scene haunts me to this day. That left me emotionally drained for weeks. The soundtrack is the cherry on top. An overall masterpiece.

@minastreets1
this season was one of the heaviest things I've ever watched , dark with eerie vibes to every corner, the tone was perfected, amazing experience.
@mick6211
The only show I have found, remotely similar to this, is Sons of Anarchy. I love dark, complex shows ans characters.
@blackdeath6085
Yeah, i have the same feeling, when i think back to season 1 i still get that eerie vibe... Perfectly made! P.s I am watching a show now with Childress playing in it, and still see him as a crazy madman, just because of True Detective, and that seems as a great actor to me...
@oozrenn
