I first heard this piece when I was five, in our neighbour's lounge. It's stayed with me ever since. I play it for my students now. I'm now 76.

"This is Stan Martin. In the last six years, it's been my privilege to be associated with 1560 WQEW, New York's Radio Home of American Popular Standards. First as program director, then station manager, and throughout as an on-air host, I've experienced the station firsthand, on the morning of December 2, 1992, when Tony Bennett came to our studios to cut the ribbon and help put us on the air, through our special events, anniversary parties, big band dances, Broadway reviews, our memorial to Frank Sinatra, and many, many other special moments. Along the way, I've worked with some extraordinary people, from great singers and musicians, to a first-grade staff of music hosts, to a group of dedicated behind-the-scenes professionals, whose efforts made it possible for us to carve out our distinctive niche, and serve the music we love so much. I'm sure they serve my sentiments tonight as we bid farewell. I know I speak for all of them, and conclude by acknowledging the most important people most associated with WQEW: you, our listeners, the people whose enthusiastic response to what we did energized our efforts and made them worthwhile. From all of us to all of you, a heartfelt thank you. Thank you for spending the last six years living with us, on the Home of American Popular Standards, 1560 WQEW, New York."
