'Les Brown and the Band of Renown' brought Doris Day into prominence with their recording of Sentimental Journey in 1945. The release of Sentimental Journey coincided with the end of WWII in Europe and was the homecoming theme for many veterans. They had nine other number-one hit songs, including I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm.
Les Brown and the Band of Renown performed with Bob Hope on radio, stage and TV for almost fifty years. They did 18 USO Tours for American troops around the world, and entertained over three million. Before the Super Bowls were televised, the Bob Hope Christmas Specials were the highest-rated programs in television history. Tony Bennett was "discovered" by Bob Hope and did his first public performance with Les and the Band.
Les Brown and the Band were also the 'house band' for the Dean Martin Variety Show, which ran for ten seasons, and for the Steve Allen show.
Les Brown and the Band of Renown performed with virtually every major performer of their time, including Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Nat "King" Cole.
In 2001, Les Brown Jr. became the full-time leader of the Band of Renown. They continue to perform throughout the world and have a regular big band show in Branson, Mo. Les Brown Jr. also hosts a national radio show on the Music Of Your Life network. Les Jr. was a television actor in the 1960s (Gunsmoke, General Hospital, Gilligan's Island), a rock musician and producer who worked with Carlos Santana, and a concert promoter for many country music artists including Merle Haggard and Loretta Lynn. In 2004 Les Brown Jr. received the Ambassador of Patriotism award from the POW Network.
Les Brown Sr. is interred in the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles, California.
I Dream Of You

That this heart of mine embraces all day through
In that small cafe, the park across the way
The children's carousel,
The chestnut trees, the wishing well
I'll be seeing you in every lovely summer's day
In everything that's light and gay
I'll find you in the morning' sun
And when the night is new
I'll be looking at the moon
But I'll be seeing you
I'll find you in the morning sun
And when the night is new
I'll be looking at the moon
But I'll be seeing you
Les Brown's song "I'll Be Seeing You" is a classic love ballad that was written by Irving Kahal and composer Sammy Fain in 1938. The song was popularized by many singers throughout the years, including Billie Holiday and Frank Sinatra. The lyrics revolve around a lover's promise to their significant other that they will always remember them and see them in everything they do and everywhere they go.
The opening verse of the song, "I'll be seeing you in all the old familiar places that this heart of mine embraces all day through" sets the tone for the rest of the song. It is an endearing expression of love and affection that creates a vivid image of a couple's memories together. The "old familiar places" could refer to places they frequent together, such as a small cafe or a park across the way. The following verses, "the children's carousel, the chestnut trees, the wishing well" imply that the couple has a shared history and has created many beautiful moments together.
The second verse of the song paints a picture of the couple's happy times together. The lyrics "I'll be seeing you in every lovely summer's day, in everything that's light and gay, I'll always think of you that way" imply that the singer's thoughts of their loved one are associated with beautiful summer days and happiness. They declare that their love will always endure and that they will carry it with them in everything they do.
The final verse of the song, "I'll find you in the morning sun and when the night is new, I'll be looking at the moon but I'll be seeing you" echoes the singer's commitment to their lover, even when they may be apart. The sun and moon are symbols of time, and the lyrics suggest that the singer will be thinking of their loved one both day and night, no matter the distance between them. The song's power lies in its ability to evoke a sense of nostalgia and tenderness toward the past while promising to cherish the memories and treasure them in the present.
