Les Humphries Singers Lyrics

New Orleans
Yip
Yip
New Orleans
Yip yip
Left my home in Texas bound for New Orleans.
New Orleans
yip
Yip
New Orleans
Yip
Yip.
Left my home in Texas for New Orleans.

Ain't no doubt about it
Don't see no way round it

Left my girl in Maybeline and got on board the River Queen.
Should have faced the jury but I was in a hurry
Got on board the River Queen and headed down to New Orleans.

Happened to be on the River Boat Queen
River Boat Queen bound for New Orleans
Happened to be on the River Boat Queen
River Boat Queen
Bound for
New Orleans
Yip
Yip
New Orleans
Yip
Yip
Left my home in Texas bound for New Orleans
New Orleans
Yip
Yip
New Orleans
Yip
Yip.
Left my home in Texas for New Orleans.
I've left friends behind me
Although they still remind me

I was feelin' doggone mean
so headed down to New Orleans.
I've lost all my money and I don't think it's funny

I gambled on the River Queen headin' down to New Orleans
Happened to be on the River Boat Queen

Smokin'
Gamblin'
Drinkin' but when I started thinkin'

Somethin' that I should have seen never left for New Orlea
I got drunk one night and then she just picked a fight

Now I'm on the River Queen headin' down to New Orleans.
Happened to be on the River Boat Queen

Overall Meaning

The song "New Orleans" by Les Humphries Singers talks about the journey from Texas to the city of New Orleans. The lyrics talk about the singer leaving their home in Texas and boarding the River Queen towards their destination. Despite leaving friends and a lover behind, the singer seems determined to start anew in the city of New Orleans. The lyrics suggest that the singer's decision to leave was motivated by feeling "doggone mean" and a desire for change.

The song also mentions the River Queen, which was a real steamship that cruised along the Mississippi River between St. Louis and New Orleans. The River Queen was first built in 1976 and still operates today, offering guests a luxury cruising experience with live music and a New Orleans-inspired cuisine.

The lyrics also touch on themes of gambling, drinking, and smoking. The singer reveals that they lost all of their money gambling on the River Queen, which shows the risks associated with indulging in vices. However, the singer seems to have no regrets about their choices and is determined to make the most of their journey.

Overall, "New Orleans" is a catchy tune that celebrates the free spirit of travel and adventure, with the city of New Orleans serving as a symbol of hope and new beginnings.

Zwei musikalische Highlights vom LHS-Album "Live For Today" - selten gesehen, DANKE für's Hochladen !
