Lover
Les Paul; Mary Ford Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You went away
I let you
We broke the ties that bind
I wanted to forget you
And leave the past behind
Still, the magic of the night I met you
Seems to stay forever in my mind
The sky was blue
And high above
The moon was new
And so was love
This eager heart of mine was singing
Lover where can you be

You came at last
Love had its day
That day is past
You've gone away
This aching heart of mine is singing
Lover come back to me
When I remember every little thing

You used to do
I'm so lonely
Every road I walk along
I walk along with you
No wonder I am lonely

The sky is blue
The night is cold
The moon is new
But love is old
And while I'm waiting here
This heart of mine is singing
Lover come back to me
When I remember every little thing

You used to do
I grow lonely
Every road I walk along
I walk along with you
No wonder I am lonely

The sky is blue
The night is cold
The moon is new
But love is old
And while I'm waiting here

This heart of mine is singing
Lover come back to me

@elvalle89

This dude was writing songs for people in 1968 in 1948. A man truly ahead of his time.

elvavalle 89 : Yes ! You are so right !

@d.a.elliottjr.367

Still sounds new more than 70 years later.

@TheDeastman13

i don't know about 'new' but i had to pull my socks up about 20 times cuz they kept getting knocked off...

@detroitjack0325

This is a historic recording. Historic meaning this was the first multi track recording.

@stephenfisher9505

would love to see this live. can't make my Les Paul do that, I'am totally bumper stunned trying to do that with my guitar. If les was of my generation he would have left Hendrix in the dust.

@robertorick6383

The song was reissued in 1962 on Capitol's infamous "Duophonic" stereo sound, and sounds like it was four guitars playing against each other in ersatz stereo (due to the doubling of the "separation".) The result can be found on the album "The Hits Of Les Paul & Mary Ford" (Capitol # DT-1476.)

@angryshoebox

Pretty amazing. My question is, how was Les able to preserve the high end , considering he was multi tracking with disc cutting machines?

@douglasweary4873

He was using tape, not a disc cutter. In fact he took the finished product, recorded in his home, to Capitol.

@NoName-gz2kk

Sounds like a guitar on helium.
