This piece breaks my heart every time i hear it - such an incredible, full of real emotion movie. I would never wish this type of thing on anyone. So tragic..

Good movie . " I can't beat it " resonates with all of us , who have experienced tragedy . How do we move on ?

@jack are you referring to the beginning of the movie or after? It was pretty clear that he was living to die in the beginning. I don't think it was about growing or moving on. Hell, if Manchester taught us everything it's that you don't have to move on. That sense that "not everything is alright and that's alright. It isn't about getting over this hurdle or anything like that; it can be lateral. The problem was that he couldn't move at all (he was in limbo of sorts); that Manchester and Lee are both stained. Lee's catharsis stems from finally having a moment in life to reflect. He's no longer re-living in the moments as much as he is reflecting on them.
Also I think that the little moments in life are the ones that are amplified in this movie. That these things don't just disappear after tragedy; the big ideas don't just overwhelm the little ones.

This is an unpopular opinion, but I think he was handling it how he should have. To pretend it wasn't a major event is to diminish the value of what you had before. To diminish the value of something you truly valued is to take a part of your soul away. To not feel pain is to become emotionless. He feels pain, and he does care about things (things that matter; not the weather, not where he parked his car, not some 'boring' mom). If he didn't have his values in order, he'd be someone like his brother's ex wife, someone who I don't believe is fully capable of feeling this pain. It's perfectly normal to need space to grow, and Manchester just isn't a place that can give him space. You find your space, you think about things, you take your time. That's how you move on.
