They were signed to Island Records and their album The Bridge was produced by Jim Wirt (Incubus, Hoobastank). The Bridge was their only album and was released July 2nd, 2004.
They toured the United States with Story of the Year as part of the Nintendo Fusion Tour, in addition to opening for The Used on the Van's Warped Tour in the winter of 2005. Additional bands toured with include My Chemical Romance and others.
While recording their follow-up to The Bridge, guitarist Dustin Lovelis left the band to form The Fling, and the band soon broke up in 2006. They cited the cause of their breakup as lack of artistic freedom with their label.
After the band broke up, lead singer Matt Shelton returned to his hometown of Fort Worth, Texas, where he started a new band called Teleo. Lead guitarist Timothy Cordova moved back to Utah and got his master's degree, and shortly after became a middle school Language Arts teacher. Cordova currently plays guitar for The Well Church SLC.
In 2008, Matt Shelton became the permanent lead singer of the band The Wedding, replacing Kevin Keihn. There is currently no word if the band Teleo is actually in works. In July 2009, lead singer Matthew James started to promote his new acoustic solo project, Hotel Spangler, with the album Dead and Done.
In 2012, in an interview, Matt Shelton stated that there is no possibility of a Letter Kills reunion because the band agreed to split up permanently, but that he wishes luck to his ex-bandmates and their current projects. Shelton was recently recording new material with his band, The Wedding.
In 2018, according to website chorus.fm Letter Kills started an official Instagram account. Their description states "Official Instagram of Letter Kills. Time does march on."

Would change your outlook on being brave.
I never thought, you'd be like this,
You'd rather take a chance on a chance to miss,
A light that speaks of a never ending truth,
The words we say will remain in you
As long as we can sing, well sing for you
Don't wait for tomorrow, raise your voice tonight, hey, hey
Cause when it falls, a voice will ring so loud
Hey, hey, don't wait for tomorrow,
Just raise your voice tonight
Lights out, lights out, huh!
Its you that makes the choice,
To stay cause when its comes its gonna come just like a,
And you'll be far from me to decide,
I know you said you would, I know but I'm breaking just someways
A light that speaks of a never ending truth,
And the words we say will remain in you
As long as we can sing, well sing for you
Don't wait for tomorrow raise your voice tonight, hey, hey
You'll save this burning soul, just watch it die,
Cause when it falls a voice will ring so loud hey, hey,
Don't wait for tomorrow, just
Raise your voice tonight
Get down, that's right
Don't wait for tomorrow, just raise your voice tonight
You'll save this burning soul, just watch it die,
Cause when it falls, a voice will ring so loud
Hey, hey, don't wait for tomorrow,
Just raise your voice tonight, lights out
I hope your ready for this
In the song "Lights Out" by Letter Kills, the lyrics speak about being brave and taking chances. The singer addresses someone who may be hesitant to take risks and encourages them to seize the present moment and raise their voice. The light referred to in the song represents truth and the words spoken will remain with the listener. The chorus repeats "Lights out" as a call to action, urging the listener to not wait for tomorrow and instead speak up now.
The lyrics also touch on the theme of regret and the consequences of not taking action. The line "you'll be far from me to decide" suggests that the singer may be separated from the person they are addressing, possibly due to missed opportunities. The urgency in the chorus highlights the idea that time is running out and one must act quickly before it's too late.
Overall, the song is a message of empowerment and encouragement to take risks and speak up in the face of uncertainty.
