Doch Wunden heilen irgendwann
Der Herzenskrieg
Macht Seelen stark, hält sie zusammen
Wenn
Man
Wenn man sich liebt
The opening lines of Letzte Instanz's song Krieg der Herzen (War of Hearts) pose a rhetorical question that is the central theme of the song. The singer asks if the person listening can see behind their smile and understand the turmoil and conflict they are feeling inside. The battle between love and hate, joy and pain, is tearing them apart, leaving them in a state of constant struggle. They describe themselves as being consumed by hate within, and they wonder if the person listening cares enough to ask how they're really doing.
The second verse continues this exploration of the complexities of love and friendship. The singer talks about how they and the other person were once close friends who shared everything. They felt safe and comfortable with each other, but the war of hearts has changed all that. Though they still talk, there is an underlying tension and mistrust. They can't help but wonder when the other person will betray them, and they express regret that things could not have stayed simple and pure. It's a sad and honest portrayal of how relationships can change over time and what can happen when hearts become embattled.
