Era
Levi Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Já faz tanto parte de você
Você não consegue nem disfarçar
Quem não conhece que te compre

Se não tiver palco não tem show
Não vejo a hora de poder mostrar

Jogando mesmo com as peças faltando
Seus movimentos já estavam nos planos

Eu achei que não ia sentir
Mas lá no fundo me incomodou
E agora tá me sufocando

Fui me rebaixando
Agora lembro como ir ao céu

Jogando mesmo com as peças faltando
Seus movimentos já estavam nos planos
(Não tente enxergar além do que mostrei)
Jogando mesmo com as peças faltando
(Não tente relembrar, não era pra ser)
Seus movimentos já estavam nos planos

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Levi's song "Era" delve into themes of identity, emotional struggle, and the burden of unmet expectations. The opening lines suggest an intimate connection between the subject and a deeper identity that is almost inescapable. When the singer mentions that the subject of the song is so ingrained in who they are that they cannot hide it, it implies a sense of authenticity mixed with vulnerability. There’s an acknowledgment that those who truly know them can see beyond surfaces, recognizing both their strengths and their flaws. This establishes a foundation of understanding, hinting at the complexity of personal perception versus public façade.

As the song progresses, the singer reflects on the absence of a conducive environment for self-expression, as illustrated by the metaphor of not having a stage for a show. This indicates a craving for validation and a desire for recognition among a broader audience—highlighting the longing to showcase one's true self in a supportive setting. The urgency expressed in wanting to "show" suggests that the individual has been restrained or limited, feeling a tension between aspiration and reality. This resonates with the idea that true artistry and vulnerability often thrive in spaces that allow for visibility and appreciation, capturing the dichotomy of creative ambition and the barriers that inhibit fulfillment.

In the subsequent verses, Levi confronts feelings of discomfort and suffocation stemming from awareness of an underlying plan—something orchestrated that looms over the relationship. The realization that everything is part of a larger scheme, which is slowly unraveling, signifies a struggle against feelings of inevitability and loss. The singer grapples with realization and reflection, where past choices and emotions now seem like weights to bear. This highlights a poignant battle between acceptance of one's reality and the desire for liberation from the emotional baggage that hinders growth. The motif of being ‘fated to carry a heavier burden’ conveys a somber understanding of human limitations and the weight of expectations, both self-imposed and external.

Finally, the repeated phrases about “playing with missing pieces” suggest an ongoing struggle in navigating a fragmented relationship or situation. The singer encourages not to seek beyond the presented truths, emphasizing acceptance of what is rather than what could have been. In ignoring feelings and memories, the singer reaches a state of detachment, akin to emotional numbness, signifying a protective mechanism against deeper pain. The juxtaposition of longing for connection and the necessity of letting go becomes central, underlining a journey that transitions from feeling diminished to a renewed acknowledgment of worth. The poignant imagery of "remembering how to go to heaven" evokes a sense of rediscovery—seeking joy and fulfillment despite the shadows of past experiences. Ultimately, the song encapsulates a raw exploration of personal struggles, inevitable change, and the complexities of human relationships.

"I'm always brilliant in hindsight. It's foresight that becomes difficult." Aren't we all? 😉

Wishing your finger heals rapidly, Lee! Thanks for another stunning post - and for exposing all of us to new music and sonic soundscapes.

@garanceadrosehn9691

It's amazing how dedicated you are to producing videos for this channel. Very nice!
But please feel free to skip playing for a few days.
I loved this song from Era. I'll have to check them out some more.

@patriciaburke2401

Hope you’ll take the time you need to heal! Those hands are precious gifts! Take care & God bless.🌹

@mrparlanejxtra

Lee, a man who makes his living with his fingers must wear gloves when doing woodwork. They are a hassle but the save your skin and meat and bones too. Once you get into the habit of using them they are not so bad.

@Harry_Gurvich

To add on to what James said, there's a new generation of work gloves out there that give you only slightly less dexterity but afford you quite a bit of protection. I'll bet Lee could play some bass wearing them! Go to a builder's supply place for the best quality and selection. And spend the extra money, it's worth it.

@mullrump2

Cut towards your chum...not your thumb 😉

@kennonmoen4424

Brilliant hindsight on this project! Thanks for bringing it to my attention. My first thought when I heard it was Enya. Very nice. More stuff to explore.
Sounds like you’ve got a day full of conversation. Can you imagine doing that back in the day when we paid for “long distance” by the minute? Have a great day. Hope the finger recovers quickly.
Stay safe and stay well!

@dbassman27

Hi Lee. Hope your finger is better soon! Be careful you don't get an infection.
