It's all that we are in the end
Well, you tracked down all the lines you drew
And I can take the hit but I'm sorry, I don't want the bruise
Your voice gets a little loud
When there's nothing to talk about
You shout, dear
More and more by the hour
It gets dark in here
If you got time enough for me
Sing me a song and send me to sleep
Slip into my headspace while I dream
Spin me a yarn, wrap it up around me
Dust to dust, my friend
Well, you're only blood and bones
And I know your heart's at war with your head
Now I'm sure it hurt to see
You're more than I'll ever have
And more than I'll ever be
And I know it's a little late
My timing was never great
But I'm calling, dear
I just wanted to let you know
That I won't bother you anymore
I'll be gone this time next year
If you got time enough for me
Sing me a song and send me to sleep
Slip into my headspace while I dream
Spin me a yarn, wrap it up around me
If you got time enough for me
Sing me a song and send me to sleep
I never thought that a lie could sound so sweet
Until you opened your mouth
And you said you loved me
The song "Headspace" by Lewis Capaldi is a melancholic ballad about the end of a relationship that has reached its final stage. The song's message is that we are all just "salt of the Earth," mere mortals who will eventually return to the dust from which we came. Capaldi sings about the pain and heartbreak that comes with letting go of someone you care about deeply. In the first verse, he talks about how his partner has "tracked down all the lines" and he can "take the hit," but he doesn't want to be left with the bruise. The chorus asks for his partner's time one last time: "If you got time enough for me, Sing me a song and send me to sleep, Slip into my headspace while I dream, Spin me a yarn, wrap it up around me."
In the second verse, Capaldi acknowledges that we are all just flesh and blood, and even those we care for the most can be at war with themselves. He admits that he isn't the best at timing, but he calls his partner to tell them he won't be bothering them anymore and will be gone next year. The bridge repeats the request for his partner's time to "sing me a song and send me to sleep" and highlights the bittersweet nature of love with the line "I never thought that a lie could sound so sweet, Until you opened your mouth and you said you loved me."
Overall, "Headspace" is a beautiful and poignant track that captures the pain and sadness of letting go of love. It is a song that many people can relate to and one that is sure to tug at the heartstrings.

Salt of the Earth, my friend
You are a good, honest person, my friend
It's all that we are in the end
In the end, our character is all that defines us
Well, you tracked down all the lines you drew
You have figured out all the rules you set for yourself
And I can take the hit but I'm sorry, I don't want the bruise
I can handle criticism, but I don't want to be hurt by it
Your voice gets a little loud
You tend to raise your voice
When there's nothing to talk about
Especially when there isn't much to discuss
You shout, dear
You yell, my dear
And I'll find my lights fading out
My attention will begin to wander
More and more by the hour
Increasingly as time passes
It gets dark in here
The atmosphere becomes heavy and unpleasant
If you got time enough for me
If you can spare some time for me
Sing me a song and send me to sleep
Sing me a soothing melody until I fall asleep
Slip into my headspace while I dream
Enter my thoughts while I am asleep
Spin me a yarn, wrap it up around me
Tell me a captivating story that envelopes me
Dust to dust, my friend
We are all mortal and will turn to dust
Well, you're only blood and bones
We are all made up of just flesh and bone
And I know your heart's at war with your head
You are struggling between your emotions and logic
Now I'm sure it hurt to see
I am certain it was painful for you to witness
You're more than I'll ever have
You possess qualities that I do not
And more than I'll ever be
You are better than me in many ways
And I know it's a little late
I realize that it is belated
My timing was never great
I have never been good at timing
But I'm calling, dear
But I wanted to call, my dear
I just wanted to let you know
I wanted you to be aware
That I won't bother you anymore
I will not disturb you again
I'll be gone this time next year
I will not be around by next year
I never thought that a lie could sound so sweet
I never realized that a deceitful statement could be so alluring
Until you opened your mouth
Until you spoke those words
And you said you loved me
And you professed your love for me
