Malt Liquor
Lewis Del Mar Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Party sideways once again, malt liquor
Smiling sideways to my friends
But we're all getting sick of

Parties, love at 5 AM
But who's coming?
Dance around like skeletons
'Cause we forgot what we wanted

And it always seems the same
I know I know, I know you do
And we always go insane
I know I know, I know it's true
And it always seems the same
I know I know, I know you do
And we always go insane
Try'na chase some pleasure brand new
Some pleasure brand new

The morning's tied back one again
I in the kitchen
Some mornings I wish I'd grow out of this
Just like a pain my decision
'Cause I never learn to tell you no
No I never learn
I never learn to tell you no
And I never learn to tell you no
Oh, I never learn to tell you no
And I never learn to tell you no
Oh, I never learn to tell you no, oho

And it always seems the same
I know I know, I know you do
And we always go insane
I know I know, I know it's true
And it always seems the same
I know I know, I know you do
And we always go insane
Try'na chase some pleasure brand new

Some pleasure brand new

Overall Meaning

"Malt Liquor" by Lewis Del Mar is a melancholic yet upbeat song that delves into the age-old cycle of partying and searching for pleasure. The opening lines denote the start of a party, perhaps for the umpteenth time, but it becomes clear that the singer and those around him are becoming wearied by the routine. The chorus acknowledges that the same pattern repeats itself time and time again, yet perspective is never gained as they continue chasing after new pleasures that will inevitably result in the same letdown.

The second verse shifts to a morning after the party, where the singer reflects on his lack of discipline and inability to make sound decisions that would lead to a more fulfilling life. Despite recognizing the problem, he still hasn't learned to say no – the allure of a good time and chasing after new pleasurable experiences still reigns supreme. The chorus repeats here, emphasizing the undeniable cycle that is not being broken.

Overall, "Malt Liquor" displays an understanding of the struggles that come with addiction, whether it be to substances or a lifestyle. There is a longing for change but a reluctance to take that crucial first step, resulting in an endless repetition of the same cycle.

[Verso 1]
La fiesta de nuevo una vez más
Licor de malta
Sonriendo de lado a mis amigos
Pero todos nos estamos enfermando

[Verso 2]
La fiesta está viva a las 5 a.m.
¿Pero quién cuenta?
Baila como esqueletos
Porque olvidamos lo que queríamos

[Coro]
Y siempre parece lo mismo
Lo se, lo se, lo se
Y casi nos volvemos locos
Sé que sé, sé que es verdad
Y siempre parece lo mismo
Lo se, lo se, lo se
Y casi nos volvemos locos
Tratando de perseguir
Un placer nuevo

[Verso 2]
La mañana teñida de nuevo
Alto en la cocina
Estas mañanas desearía salir de esto
Parece que no es mi decisión
Porque nunca aprendí a decirte que no
No, nunca aprendí
Oh, nunca aprendí a decirte que no

[Coro]
Y siempre parece lo mismo
Lo se, lo se, lo se
Y casi nos volvemos locos
Sé que sé, sé que es verdad
Y siempre parece lo mismo
Lo se, lo se, lo se
Y casi nos volvemos locos
Tratando de perseguir
Un placer nuevo

[Outro]
Un placer nuevo

Malt Liquor needs the clear channel syndication. Loud y got me here, but this is one for the books. Its the epitome of pushing pop limits. That bass swell before the 2nd hook, the high notes in the hook, the aggressive percussion... i been writing songs for years and this makes me want to work harder and take it more seriously. These two guys need to stay in it for the long haul bc the content is fantastic
