La banda se forma en Madrid en 1995 bajo el nombre de Infernal de la mano de 4 estudiantes de Ciencias Físicas de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Antonio S. Montemayor, Fernando Martínez "Ferdis", David Ramos y Juanjo Majarín). La formación cambia de nombre en 2000 evolucionando a lo que sería Leyenda, una banda de heavy metal melódico.
A finales de 2003, y tras tres demos autoproducidas ("Atlantis", "Lluvia de Metal" y "Leyenda"), Leyenda firma contrato con la Compañía discográfica Pies Records con la formación compuesta por Antonio S. Montemayor a las voces y guitarra, Fernando Martínez a la guitarra solista, David Ramos “Davebass” al bajo e Iván Serra “Ivanhoe” a la batería.

The opening lyrics of Leyenda's song Soy Yo contain a deep sense of pain and regret, with the singer describing how something that caused them great sorrow has split them in two. The person they are addressing never knew what happened, and the singer identifies themselves as the source of the issue. However, they encourage the person to look at them directly because they are not to be feared; they are the same person they have always been. From the day that they first laid eyes on this person, they have not changed, but the person they are addressing has.
The next verse describes the singer reaching out for help when they are trapped, only to be turned away. They do not understand why they have been abandoned, and they feel entirely alone. Despite pleading with the person to see their true nature, they are rejected, and their efforts appear to be in vain. The final verse describes how the person they are speaking to has turned their back on them and is avoiding them for reasons they do not understand. The singer is hurt because they have not done anything wrong, yet everyone seems to have turned on them. They wish they could go back to the times of innocent dreams and illusions, but the person they are addressing has already decided to say no.
