El Arbol Del Olvido
Lhasa Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Que del olvido se llama
Donde van a consolarse
Vidalita
Los moribundos del alma
Para no pensar en vos
En el arbol del olvido
Vidalita
Y me quede bien dormita
Y al despertar de aquel sueño
Pensaba en vos otra vez
Pues me olvidé de olvidarte
Vidalita
En cuantito me acosté
The song "Arbol" by Lhasa is a poignant and emotional reflection on the power of memory and its ability to bring comfort or pain. The opening lines describe a tree that grows in the singer's homeland, which is known as the Tree of Oblivion. This tree serves as a refuge to those whose spirits are dying and need solace. The character of Vidalita is introduced, and her empathic and soothing presence is suggested as a comfort to those who seek comfort under the tree's canopy.
The second verse reveals that the singer has sought respite from painful memories by sleeping beneath the Tree of Oblivion, hoping that this would alleviate their pain. However, upon waking from the slumber, they realize that they cannot escape thoughts of the person they were trying to forget. The pain is still present, and the singer feels defeated by their inability to move on. The melody is gentle, understated, and somewhat melancholic, underscoring the wistful nature of the lyrics.
