Their first single "Thinking It Over" cracked the UK Top 5, surprising fans and skeptics alike. A second single, "Doin' It", did not chart as well as their debut, making a modest impact at #14. At the same time the group was also addressing a lawsuit concerning their name. The matter was resolved by adding an 'X' to their band name, a decision that took into account suggestions from their fans.
Liberty X scored a UK #1 hit with the release of their third single, "Just A Little". With sales in excess of 500,000 units, "Just a Little" ended as the 7th best selling single of 2002. Their success was maintained with the release of both "Got To Have Your Love" (UK #2) and its parent album Thinking It Over, which debuted in the Top 3 of their respective charts. This was followed by another Top 10 success, "Holding On For You". Their debut album eventually earned multi-platinum recognition, selling close to 750,000 units in the UK.
The band's second album, Being Somebody, followed in 2003. Three additional Top 20 hit singles came from this record: "Being Nobody" (UK #3), "Jumpin" (UK #6), and "Everybody Cries" (UK #13). Being Somebody became certified gold and sold over 200,000 copies in the United Kingdom.
Their third full-length, X, was released in 2005. Despite the fact that it spawned another two additional Top 10 singles for the group, it became their least successful album to date. The singles released from this album included "Song 4 Lovers" (UK #5) and a remake of Shalamar's classic "A Night To Remember". Liberty X's version, which peaked at #6 in the UK, was used as the official track for the Children In Need charity. The third single to be released from the album was the title track "X", but due to lack of proper promotion, it peaked at #47. Their album, X, peaked at #27 in October of 2005 and sold over 50,000 copies.
In May of 2007 the band announced that they were splitting up stating that the music world had "changed too much since we began". They are all still friends and are currently working on solo projects.

Come on
Oh
I don't even think I can take no more
I know we need a place to go
Time to paint the spot
We ain't hit the floor
Running real low
So we gotta do what we gotta do
You know we gotta get that buzz
Understand why
I don't expect you too
Nobody does it like we do
Leave the City of
Angels behind us
You and me now
Feeling free
I'll let you ride shotgun
Out of L.A. to Vegas
It's gonna be a hot one
Time to escape and say that you wanna
Go far away
Don't want another hold up today
You know you're riding shotgun
All of the way to Vegas
We're gonna slot one
No other way to say this
We're gonna stack up the chips
We're gonna be the names on your lips
You know you're riding shotgun
Everything is so possible
It's like I'm living out my dreams
Now I'm feeling kinda unstoppable
Nothing's ever what it seems
Gotta take my chances
Cos I'm here to win
You know the stakes are getting real high
Go ahead and give it another spin
Me I'm trying to reach the sky
Nobody knows what would have been
(Would have been)
If you never said those words to me
I'll let you ride shotgun
Out of L.A. to Vegas
It's gonna be a hot one
Time to escape and say that you wanna
Go far away
Don't want another hold up today
You know you're riding shotgun
All of the way to Vegas
We're gonna slot one
No other way to say this
We're gonna stack up the chips
We're gonna be the names on your lips
You know you're riding shotgun
Oh, oh
Nobody knows what would have been
(Nobody knows)
If you never said those words to me
I'll let you ride shotgun
(Shotgun)
Out of L.A. to Vegas
It's gonna be a hot one
(Hot one)
Time to escape and say that you wanna
Go far away
(Go far away)
Don't want another hold up today
You know you're riding shotgun
All of the way to Vegas
We're gonna slot one
No other way to say this
(Ah)
We're gonna stack up the chips
We're gonna be the names on your lips
(Ooh)
You know you're riding shotgun
I'll let you ride shotgun
Out of L.A. to Vegas
It's gonna be a hot one
Time to escape and say that you wanna
(Yeah)
Go far away
(Go far away)
Don't want another hold up today
You know you're riding shotgun
Slot one
Stack up the chips
Names on your lips
You know you're riding shotgun
"Shotgun" by Liberty X is a song about getting away from the stress of life in Los Angeles and taking control of one's own destiny. The song's chorus references driving to Las Vegas, where they plan to gamble and let loose, away from the responsibilities of their daily lives. The song conveys a sense of freedom and empowerment, as the characters shake off their worries and take control of their own lives.
The first verse sets up the stakes, with the characters feeling trapped by their dwindling finances and the monotony of their daily routine. They resolve to make a change, and the chorus drives this point home by emphasizing the sense of adventure and freedom that comes with riding shotgun out of town. The bridge of the song discusses the idea that taking chances and making bold moves can lead to amazing results, and nobody knows what could have happened otherwise.
Overall, "Shotgun" is an anthem for anyone feeling trapped or stuck in their current situation. The song encourages listeners to take control of their own lives and make bold choices, even if it means stepping outside of their comfort zone.
