On The Road
Lick Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's too late
All the lights are out
All the kids have played
Now I've lost my way, but anyway

Heartache and pain baby
I know my name right now
And you're calling me
And I need the ground as my final place
Oh, how you love me anyway

It's a long road out of here
Don't leave the light on
I ain't coming home
You gotta be strong

It's a long road out of here
When you love me like you do
Makes it hard for me to leave you

Distance, my friends
It's closer when you reach the end
Between time and space
Oh, I can't erase, anyway

It's a long road out of here
Don't leave the light on
I ain't coming home
You gotta be strong

It's a long road out of here
When you love me like you do
Makes it hard for me to leave you

And you carry all the weight of the world in your hands
And you're given all my love you never thought you had

And all I know to believe it is closing me eyes and all my dreams
But I guess I just want to go on and on
I guess I just want to go on and on
I guess I just want to go on and on
And I guess I just want to go on and on

I guess I just want to go on and on
I guess I just want to go on and on

I guess I just want to go on and on

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Lick's song "On The Road" convey a sense of being lost and uncertain, both emotionally and physically. The opening lines suggest that it's too late for something, perhaps a missed opportunity or a failed relationship, and the references to children and playing imply a sense of longing for simpler times. The repetition of "anyway" throughout the song underscores this feeling of resignation and acceptance of what can't be changed.

The following lines suggest that the singer is experiencing heartache and pain, but still knows who they are and feels called to by someone else. The next few verses explore the theme of distance and how it can be both physical and emotional, while also hinting at the singer's desire to continue moving forward despite the difficulties. The chorus returns with the refrain of the "long road out of here," which could be a metaphor for the journey through life and the challenges that come with it. The last few lines offer a glimmer of hope in the face of uncertainty, with the image of carrying the weight of the world and finding unexpected love.

Overall, "On The Road" is a powerful and evocative song that speaks to the universal experiences of loss, longing, and perseverance.

Past the bridge you can actually find old Indian grounds back there... used to go there when I was a kid... my dad would take me and we would hunt for arrowheads, which we would find on occasion. When we were young we would actually camp back there... past the bridge, walk the path to the left and it wraps around. We would hear people visit throughout the night and it was easy to scare the piss out of em. We had fun and good ole times. We never personally had anything happen to us out there... more so just the history of the area is what fascinated. God rest my dad’s soul, he was a wealth of knowledge and was a good ole country backroad buckeye. There is a wooded area (if it is still there) that sits behind Carousel Circle off of JohnGray Road. Those woods have so incredibly much history to them and there was an old tunnel that was called Satans tunnel. It was tall enough to walk thru. Stone front. If you traveled far enough back you would come across old concrete base homes that appeared to be torn down years ago. There was debris everywhere and it was believed that a lot of the items were cursed... hence why they stayed. It was also believed that Carousel Circle was built on top of Indian burial grounds which added to a great deal of strange happenings people would have that reside there. This happened all near 30 years ago when it was first built... so I have no idea what’s there now.

Thanks for video... fun to watch... bring back memories.

I hate this place. I live right down the street from there i been there twice. 1st time in a old crown vic with no radio an we were hearing a girls voice. U park down at the dead end flash your lights 3 times an your car is suppose to shut off. That happened to me it took along time for it to start back up. 2nd time we parjed in the circle flashed my lights and turned around an there was a pack of creepy looking deer behind my car an then they were gone.
