Impressed after their first London gig, the Rough Trade-affiliated Tugboat label asked the band to record a debut single on the label. Released in March 2000, "The Leanover" b/w "New Town" secured the band a full deal with the label. The band released two more singles on the label. The band's debut, Any Other City, recorded by Scottish producer Andy Miller, was released in 2001 in the UK; DCBaltimore 2012 issued it months later in the United States. In May 2007 a live album was released in Europe called Live at the Annandale Hotel on the Gargleblast Records label. The album has subsequently been released in North America on Absolutely Kosher Records in August 2007.
The band broke up in 2002 for unknown reasons. Despite the fact that they existed for only three years, Life Without Buildings has developed a strong underground following, with their only LP Any Other City widely admired in many critical circles.

Life Without Buildings Lyrics

Oh, oh, it's never unfair
Do you know, do you know, it's never unfair
On a cloudy day, all that time ago, be yeah
Oh, oh, it's never unfair
Oh, oh, it's never unfair
Do you know I'm leaving you in 14 days?
Take all the precious things, nothing less
The things you do, green child
I need to think
Oh, oh, it's never unfair
Oh, oh, it's never unfair
Do you know, do you know, it's never unfair
Cloudy day, all that time ago, be yeah
Oh, oh, it's never unfair
Oh, oh, it's never unfair
Do you know I'm leaving you in 14 days?
Take all the precious things, nothing less
I need to think, green child
The things you do, green child
The things you do
Oh, oh, it's never unfair
Oh, oh, it's never unfair
Do you know, do you know, it's never unfair
In a foreign part, going blind, it's never unfair
Do you know I'm leaving you in 14 days?
Take all the precious things, nothing less
I need to think, green child
The things you do, green child
I need to think, fade
I'm leaving you in 14 days
Take all the precious things, nothing less
I need to think, green child
The things you do, green child
The things you do
It's your game, it's your game
It's your game, it's your game
It's your game, it's your game
It's your game, it's your game
It's your game, it's your game
It's your game, it's your game
It's your game, it's your game
It's your game
The song "14 Days" by Life Without Buildings is a contemplation of leaving a relationship, bringing together feelings of uncertainty, regret, and resolve. The repetition of the line "oh, oh, it's never unfair" seems to suggest a resigned acceptance of the situation, while the reference to a "cloudy day" from "all that time ago" hints at a nostalgic longing for better times.
The singer announces that they are leaving their partner in 14 days, but also emphasizes the need to take all the precious things and nothing less, implying that they are taking control of the situation rather than just being the one who is left behind. The repeated use of the phrase "green child" is enigmatic, but seems to suggest both a fondness and a distance from the partner.
Overall, the song portrays a complex mixture of emotions, as the singer tries to make sense of their feelings while also accepting the inevitability of the situation.
