Other Side of the River
Life of Agony Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's blood on the floor
And you're not even moving
Don't really know if it's mine or yours
But you aint moving
Eyes are ide as you grin at me
You know there's a place that you'd rather be
But if you should die and I survive
How could I go on knowing that I am still alive
Here breathing
There's a beast that's living deep within me
Forcing me to feed all my needs
Yeah he's in me
And he brought us here to end our fears
To wave goodbye to all of the tears
To start a new life on the other side of the river
Well my world would be over
Hold on, hold on, I won't be long
Wait for me, man, I won't ne long
You were such in a rush to reach the other side
Look at yourself with that look in your eye

Smilimg wide and pre-occupied with that river
Well my world would be over

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Other Side of the River" by Life of Agony are dark and introspective, exploring themes of death, fear, and the struggle to find a new beginning. The opening lines set the tone for the song - there is blood on the floor and the singer is unsure if it belongs to themself or someone else. The second line is particularly haunting as it suggests that someone may have died, yet they remain unmoving. The imagery of blood and death is vivid and unsettling.

As the song progresses, we learn more about the singer's situation. They are faced with a beast within them that drives them to act on their desires. This beast has led them to the other side of the river, where they hope to begin a new life without fear or tears. However, the singer is also faced with the possibility that they may survive while their companion does not. The line "How could I go on knowing that I am still alive here breathing" is a poignant reminder of the guilt and grief that can come with surviving a traumatic experience.

The song ends with the singer pleading with their companion to wait for them, suggesting that they may still have hope for a new beginning. However, the final line "Well my world would be over" is an ambiguous one. It could be interpreted as the singer lamenting the loss of their companion or acknowledging that their own life will never be the same again.

I agree. i was also mostly referring to the vocal work done by keith on this album. the music was really good, but what stood out for me and left a lasting impression was the amount of emotion he put into the singing. brutal, honest, raw, and moving all at the same time!!!

saw them do this in 95 when they opened for type o negative at the nassau coliseum in new york. amazing

Is it just me or

Good times! Seen LOA w Type O at stone pony in the late 90’s I’d I’m not mistaken. It was before the stone pony remodeled.
I recall folks hanging onto the water lines or pipes from
The ceiling rather.
The ceiling was pretty freakin’ low back then. They’ve (The Stone Pony) since made the layout less treacherous lol. Heightened the ceiling etc.
Sadly though we all shall never bare witness to a great lineup with LOA and Type O.
So basically RIP Peter Steele, and type o, and also rip life of agony.
Mina Caputo does put on a great show. Keith is still Keith he’s just Keith and Mina now; that’s fine!
Just wish LOA would tour NJ again
