TP, thank you so much for introducing my to Ian Carr's music. I listen to it whenever I'm in a particularly rough spot or when I get a panic attack. When I listen to every individual instrument and put it all together, it speaks to me, man. I especially like the Images song because it reminds me of when I was a kid and things were a lot simpler and the magic was visible. Thanks from the bottom of my heart. Love, brother.

Ian Carr deserves much more recognition for his pioneering jazz rock music, at around the same time that Miles was doing the same. I was an early fan of Nucleus because each album was well played and had high production values. A nice upload and a good reminder of an earlier age.

I really love Nucleus. They took the best bits of Soft Machine and Miles and then turned it into their own. To me that is being a true artist....they had just the right balance of jazz rock and funk for my tastes.

There were two great groups I came across at the beginning of my interest in jazz. Nucleus and If. If had a fantastic guitarist, Terry Smith, but Nucleus had the cool grooves, particularly on the slower tempo numbers and Britain's finest trumpet player, Ian Carr. Just listen to him on Roots, he plays with such restraint and class. Flugelhorn is a terrific instrument. I do not know who the bass player is (they had quite a few over time) but he is very good too. I like Soft Machine and Turning Point too, but Nucleus is less fussy and has grooves that simply get better the more you listen to them. Ian Carr is definitely a composer, and he turned me on to the trumpet long before I ever heard Miles Davis.

I wouldn’t say this is prog. The first track is more like Miles Davis, hints of Bitches Brew, but there are proggy bits as well. One of the later tracks is reminiscent of some of Gong, although their sound varied over time. The brilliant Allan Holdsworth played on the Nucleus 'Belladonna' album and later on Gong's 'Gazeuse'. Both are worth listening to. Ian Carr wrote an excellent biography of Miles Davis called Miles. He was the perfect person to do it, being an English graduate and trumpeter so he could both write and play. Miles being the enigma that he was after reading Carr's book I knew a lot more about Miles, but at the same time still nothing at all. I almost saw Nucleus in 1973 when I was at Uni in Manchester. I didn’t go because it wasn’t my kind of thing. I wouldn’t have enjoyed it then, but I certainly would now.

These guy's were one of the first if not the first of the fusion groups. It's hard to believe this record is 47 years old.This type music produced some of the best musicians in the world. Guy's like Stanley Clarke, Al Di Meola, Billy Cobham ,John McLaughlin ,and so many more that are unbelievably good at playing and mixing up some rock jazz together.

the 70s funk/soul/jazz music was the shit. so pure. so raw. so dripping with sweat and inspiration. and yes, it made for some awesome soundtrack music to paint the picture with sound for your ears. this could be the soundtrack to a number of action/adventure films of that era.
