Thanks for the update! However, technically, this isn’t a (safety) recall, but a service campaign, as there is no inherent safety risk! 😉 So, it isn’t mandatory, but (highly) recommended. Hopefully, a similar action is coming soon to Europe, as here in Belgium, more and more EV6-owners are having issues with the ICCU.

If you read through all of the Ioniq 5 (or even EV6) threads you will see some cases where they struggle to bring the car to a safe halt after a loud pop whilst driving in the fast lane so i would argue that it is a safety recall. Anyway regardless of what it’s called it’s very important that it’s fixed.

@@evodesseyI know there are some cases where it was difficult to stop the car in a safe way, so as a driver, this problem can indeed cause safety risks. However, it seems that Hyundai/KIA decided not to call this a safety recall for some reason. Maybe then they have to do a global recall, something they want to avoid/delay? 🤔

@@peterhelincks2438 One of those links i put in the video notes has a survey of Ioniq5 owners. https://www.ioniqforum.com/threads/iccu-failure.45766/ 25% of that survey of 202 owners had the failure which is terrible but a larger sample is required to make it more scientific. The survey i did on my Youtube community tab which i’ve now taken down (because i set it up as a quiz🤦) Had 147 responses of which 10% had the ICCU failure. Once again a larger sample rate is required to get a proper feel for how big the problem is.

I’m in the US with an EV6 purchased February 2022. I just got the notice in the mail and made my appointment. In all the time I’ve had the car I have only charged at home with L1 or L2 and never DCFC. I’m hoping this means the ICCU unit is okay and the software solution will suffice.

i'm a bit later to the party but i have both of the code you showed from the Niro. U1116 is related to the coolant pump, ive had this code from the day it was delivered, kia know about it and have tried to resolved the issue or at least the reason why it get triggered , my dealer said the pump it working as it should do. B29C1 is during normal charging, although the AC power source is being input, there is a break of the PWM communication signal from Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE).

Will this be a world wide recall? I've asked my Kia dealer about this campaign. They answered that theres no campaign for the ICCU upgrade on my car.

No news yet no. Yes i do miss it but the brand new Niro EV 4 trim is helping make up for it.

If the fuse has blown, what functionality do you lose?

If it blows whilst driving,the 12v battery is not topped up & all other systems that use 12v from the steer by wire to power steering to power assisted brakes and also power to the motor will gradually diminish as the 12v drains. No power will transfer from traction battery. The 12v will run down pretty quick so you will have a very limited amount of time to get to a safe place if driving down the fast lane. Also the car can no longer be charged via AC or DC. I think there may be a capacitor to store some energy to allow a safe stop but you won’t get much from that. All this is what i’ve read from various forum posts.

Guess who bought an EV6 on 7/15/23? Has this issue been addressed on dealer inventory? Or do I have to wait until I have a problem?

I should add, I really enjoy my EV6 GT-Line. I'm still figuring out all the toys.

Congratulation on your new car. If you are in the US you will have to ask your dealer. I would say that it’s too soon after the recall to have been done. As for the rest of the world we are still waiting. I will bring news on this channel once i have it.

The technician in my Hyundai workshop told me, the issue was down to cracks in the ECCU housing, of which the coolant lines are an integral part. The cracks cause leaks, resulting in the problems once coolant and electricity start to mix. Hence they check the affected ICCUs for cracks, and if they dont find any, they glue a reinforcement plate to the underside (where the cracking occurs) of the housing. Since they often didn't have the ICCU or the reinforcement plate or the special glue or several/all of the above in stock, they had to brick affected cars on their lot, if it was bbrought in. Hence my workshop advised owners of cars with affected VIN not to show up unless they absolutely had to. That's how I learned of this bulletin, I called them because I needed a set of wipers, which in my case are under warranty for the first 3 years. They asked me for the VIN and told me if my car was affected they'd rather send the wipers by mail, free of charge. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ (but it wasn't, so I got the wipers installed at the shop 😂😂😂😂)

In Korea there was a recall one year ago for the same problem (bad weldings in the ICCU leading to coolant leaks). Seems they didn’t fix the problem. However, I think the current ICCU-problems with the EV6 are not related to such cracks and are the result of voltages that are too high, resulting in damaging the ICCU and/or fuse..

Perhaps the Ioniq 5 is different then as this information above is at odds with TSB-SC271 which states that the ICCU is not visually inspected for cracks but simply has a software upgrade if fault code DTC P1A9096 is not stored.

@@evodessey Switzerland. The TSB was in place since 2022 . Yet cars built as late as march 2023 can be affected. I guess ICCUs are or were in short supply and they went ahead and used some from the known bad batches to get the car out the door. Fixing/replacing the part later must have been the cheaper option.

@@mad4tar77 The TSB also includes a software update. How software relates to cracks i dont know. However, it could well be Hyundai use different ICCUs than KIA with different problems. They certainly dont use the same battery cells for example.
