Happy Hour
Ligabue Lyrics

Sia comunque scritto
Quindi tanto vale che non sudi
Nasci da incendiario
Muori da pompiere
Dicono che devi
Proprio farti fuori
Che ti portiamo I fiori
Lì nei cimiteri mitici
Sei già dentro l'happy hour
Vivere vivere costa la metà
Quanto costa fare finta
Di essere una star?
Dicono che nasci solo per soffrire
Ma se soffri bene vinci il premio
Di consolazione
Chi non salta l'eccezione è
Dicono che I sogni
Sono tutti gratis
Ma son quasi tutti quanti usati
Copriti per bene
Che non ti conviene il mondo qui
Sei già dentro l'happy hour
Vivere vivere costa la metà
Quanto costa fare finta
Ti fa stare in riga
The lyrics of "Happy hour" by Ligabue tackle the topic of the pressures that come with pursuing a career in the music industry. The song suggests that success in this field often comes with compromises and sacrifices, as one is required to conform to certain expectations and ideals. The first stanza highlights this, with lines such as "They say everything is already written/So you might as well not sweat it/You're born a firestarter/But you die a firefighter". These lyrics suggest that while there may be a sense of excitement and passion at the beginning of one's career, eventually one must conform to the expectations of others in order to survive.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the idea that there is a certain cost to living the life of a "star" in the music industry. The lines "Living costs only half as much as pretending to be a star" suggest that the glamour and fame associated with the industry come at a price, and that many people are willing to sacrifice their own authenticity and integrity in order to attain them. The song also implies that this pursuit of fame can be a somewhat empty goal, as it does not necessarily lead to a fulfilling life. The lines "And what interest will the life you don't spend have?" suggests that there is more to life than simply accumulating wealth and fame.
Overall, "Happy hour" by Ligabue is a critique of the music industry and the pressures it places on those who pursue a career within it. The song suggests that success in this field often comes at a personal cost, and that it is important to consider what really matters in life when chasing after fame and fortune.

Now it's been 16 years since I've first heard this song on holiday in Italy (Vodafone ad) and it's still one of my very favourite songs of all times. Both „Happy Hour“ and „Le Donne lo sanno“ are bloody brilliant.
Are there any other Ligabue songs I need to check out? I've listened to a few others, but they were nowhere nearly as good as these two.

Ancora, sentendola mi mette i brividi
