She has had multiple singles which have charted within the top ninety on the Canadian Hot 100. She was awarded the 2009 Juno Award for New Artist of the Year and two 2009 Astral Media Radio awards during Canadian Music Week.

Her debut EP Lights was released in July 2008 and achieved commercial success which enabled the release of her first full-length album, The Listening, on September 22, 2009. Her second album, Siberia, was released on October 4, 2011. Both albums have been certified gold in Canada. Lights released her third studio album, Little Machines, on September 19, 2014, which debuted on the Canadian Albums Chart at number five. Her fourth album, Skin&Earth, which featured "Giants", was released in September 2017, accompanied by a graphic novel of the same name. Her albums won the Juno Award for Pop Album of the Year in 2015 and 2018.

Lights has collaborated with artists including Bring Me the Horizon, Silverstein, Deadmau5, Felix Cartal, i_o, Owl City and Sleepy Tom. Lights signed with Fueled by Ramen in 2019 and released Skin&Earth Acoustic, which included three new songs.

I've been a fan of Lights since 2008, and she's been one of my favorite recording artists since 2009.

Skin&Earth is the album I'm most excited about in 2017, which says a lot because there were and will be many albums released this year by artists I really like.

Considering she won't see this, & that's okay, I absolutely love her music. She is so talented & so beautiful inside & out. I absolutely love Skin&Earth. All her albums are phenomenal!!!!! I have a feeling this will be her most successful album yet. There are a few reason for this, Giants entered the US top 40, making it Lights' first song to do so, it also had a very high budget which therefore gained it some publicity. It has gained quite a lot of radio play over North America. This new sound is pop enough for a pop audience to enjoy but also for anyone to just have a good listen. Savage is featuring Josh Dun which makes a whole fandom interested in it, also the final song on the album features him so that could push people to pay for it. She has other features from other bands as well so that may draw in a wider audience. The comic has also gained her some popularity and respect. She has had a stand at comic con and got to speak which would push her comic and album out even more. Lights has toured America doing radio shows and has had many interviews in magazines. I'm hoping this is quite a popular album so that she actually has a foot in the mainstream industry as more people need to hear this lady and her message! Great stuff. I'm also torn. On one hand, if this album is from heartbreak. I feel you.
On the other hand, if this is straight up writing. It's pure genius.

I sit on the streets that are ten miles wide. I know the pain is real, I feel it inside. People stop and stare, as if I were so strange. Bend on my knees, shouting at the rain. Each drop erases a memory and some pain, soon I'll be left with nothing... but this mystical rain.

Overall though, this album sounds like it is going to be better than the last, just as all of them have seemed to do to the album before it.

OkashiiAmerican they are, but she's stated before that she makes the kind of music she wants to make, which is electronic; and she shouldn't be obligated to strip her songs down every time she makes music. That's defeating the purpose of being an electronic artist and time consuming.
