Clarity
Like Pacific Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Act as if I'm deaf or my spines misplaced,
But the two worst things were you and I, in case you were wondering.
As I sit back and take it all in, critical thinking was all I did
You had your fair share of chances no second win,
Now I'll lead by example
This is as good as gold gets, now I'm hostage in my head
You know exactly what you did,
You know exactly what you did, so forget
Oh, how perfect it is to prey on the young and weak
Buzz up 3 floors and the outlook's bleak just give me a break
You only hear what you wanna hear and you only corrupt just about everyone
This river I fucking step in ain't the river I stand in.
There's not enough lights, in this place
To keep me from giving you shade
Two way thinking on a one way fucking street
This is as good as gold gets, now I'm hostage in my head
You know exactly what you did,
So forget all the things I said
You know exactly what you did, so forget
The lyrics of Like Pacific's song Clarity convey a sense of frustration and disillusionment. The lyrics suggest that the persona is tired of the way that people talk behind their back rather than addressing issues directly. The persona is frustrated that people say negative things about them, yet do not have the courage to say the same things to their face. The line "Act as if I'm deaf or my spine's misplaced" furthers this point, as it suggests that people are ignoring the persona or not addressing the root of the issue. The chorus focuses on a particular individual, with whom the persona had a past relationship. The line "The two worst things were you and I, in case you were wondering" is harsh and delivers a poignant message about the toxicity of the partnership. The verse then shifts towards the persona's frustrations about the limitations of their current situation, describing themselves as "hostage in [their] head". The final lines of the song suggest that the persona has moved on from the negative experiences and is ready to let go of any negativity.

It's songs like this that are the reason why I love pop-punk so damn much. No other genre of music makes me feel so many emotions at once. People who say pop-punk is dead clearly aren't looking hard enough.

This is fucking amazing! Pure Noise Records you guys are signing some really great bands I can't stop telling everyone that will listen lol. I'm so happy this was released maybe this will shut up the people that were talking shit about Like Pacific sounding identical to The Story So Far. Yeah they may have a similar style but shit a lot of regular pop punk bands sound similar and everyone loves them it's just that TSSF came out and the vocals sounded so different from your usual pop punk vocalist and there really hasn't been a vocalist that sounded like theirs until this album from Like Pacific. Anyways this is great can't wait for the album to drop!

Love this so much, and love this band. Only as of recent go into them, but it was because of Distant Like You Asked, which I love and call "The best pop-punk album released in years!" Seriously, if you haven't heard that album yet, pick it up.
