When Lil B titled his last digital label released mixtape I'm Gay, he received several death threats. Although he is heterosexual, he says the title is a message of support to the LGBT community. Referring to the alternative definition of gay, he says he is gay because he is happy. Following the death threats, he added "I'm Happy" in parenthesis to the album's title. I'm Gay received positive reviews with many fans commenting on the album's wide variety of positive messages and noting the unique beats and lyrical styles not common to mainstream hip hop. He raps about many controversial issues including race relations, poverty, humanity, and the justice system. The album also, according to many fans, shows the "true" side of Lil B. It entered the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart at #56 and the Heatseekers Albums chart at #20 for the week of July 16, 2011. It is for sale on iTunes but Lil B also uploaded it to the Internet for free, posting a link to it on Twitter and Facebook saying, "for all my fans who don't have $10 to buy my album, here it is for free."
Lil B typically releases at least one mixtape every month; so far in 2012 he has released 13 mixtapes - 4 in July alone. One of those released in July was the massive 848-song, nearly 5GB collection of Based Freestyles, which is his largest release to date. In 2013, hip-hop listeners voted Lil B as the greatest rapper of all time.

I’d play the game different
If I could go back in time
Spend yours and save mine
If I could go back in time
The streets is a lie
If I could go back in time
I ain't gon’ never sell dimes
I’d play the game different
If I could go back in time
Spend yours and save mine
If I could go back in time
The streets is a lie (Real talk, yes)
If I could go back in time
I’ll never sell dimes (Yes)
I regret so much, this shit is built up
I grew up in pain man this world is nuts
They want me to go to counseling
I’m asking "for what?"
I ain’t gon’ talk about shit
Closed mouth big nuts
Go to the grave wit’ on my mind
Life would be different if
I was different man shit I’ma keep living
I’m too old to bullshit
I’m too young to give up on it
And I’m too legit to quit
I’m not perfect, I’m not a false prophet
My love is real and I can
Explain how I got it
My mother very optimistic she
Got a good spirit
Conflicted at times but shit, who isn’t?
My father’s my father
Smart man very dedicated
Educated a walking textbook
Love no hesitation
Life ain’t perfect but it could be worse
But wait for the second verse, It’s Lil B
Demons from my past but I be free at last
Keep so much to myself I
Started hoarding the bad
We only show the good, walking on egg shells
Do my friends really love me?
Shit only time will tell
Who really knows you and
What you been through?
I’m coming from the bottom and it
Can fuck up your mental
Gotta have a backbone l, we all got regrets
Like Jay-Z said, you just gotta live with ‘em
But don’t give up we not bad or good
I’ma keep it real we just us, we just livin’
We know fear (Uh)
We gotta explore our options and that’s real
I know one thing, I know god got us
Can you stand the rain?
The realest quote ever
I’ve been outside and really
I forgot my sweater
Who can I trust? I got god
I’ll never give up (It’s Lil B)
If I could go back in time
I’d play the game different
If I could go back in time
Spend yours and save mine
If I could go back in time
The streets is a lie
If I could go back in time
I ain't gon’ never sell dimes
If I could go back in time
I’d play the game different
If I could go back in time
Spend yours and save mine
If I could go back in time
The streets is a lie
If I could go back in time
I’ll never sell dimes (Yes)
The lyrics of Lil B's song "If I Die" express regret and introspection. Lil B reflects on his past choices and contemplates how his life could have been different. He acknowledges the pain and hardships he has experienced, emphasizing that the world can be cruel. However, he also asserts that he will continue living and striving for a better future.
Lil B expresses remorse for the mistakes he has made, acknowledging that he has built up a lot of regret. Growing up in a challenging environment, he feels the weight of the world's craziness. Although others may suggest counseling, he resists opening up about his struggles, preferring to keep them to himself and maintain a tough exterior. He acknowledges that life would have been different if he had made different choices, but he is determined to keep moving forward. Despite his imperfections, Lil B claims to possess genuine love and understanding, thanks in part to his optimistic mother's influence and his father's dedication and intellect.
In the second verse, Lil B contemplates the demons from his past but expresses a sense of liberation. He acknowledges the tendency to show only the positive aspects of his life while hoarding the negative experiences. He questions whether his friends truly love him and wonders if time will reveal their true intentions. Lil B also reflects on the difficulties of coming from a disadvantaged background and how it can impact one's mental state. To overcome these challenges, he emphasizes the importance of having a strong backbone and accepting our regrets, quoting Jay-Z's wisdom about living with them. He encourages perseverance and staying true to oneself amidst the complexities of life, acknowledging that we all have flaws but ultimately, we are just human.
Overall, "If I Die" is a song that reflects on the past, explores the burdens of regret and pain, and highlights the importance of resilience, self-acceptance, and striving for a better future.
