Growing up, Boosie was hardened by the many difficult experiences he was put through. His neighborhood, notorious for drugs and violence, was a place feared by the general population. To outsiders, it was a jungle, to residents, it was life. Boosie got very involved in basketball to stay off the streets, and was actually expected to move on to college level basketball.
At 14 years old, Boosie moved in to live with his grandmother after his father was murdered over drugs. Growing up with no father figure and without a strong guiding hand, Boosie turned to drugs and crime. After being expelled from school, Boosie picked up freestyling and began to get serious about his music. Living in the 225, Boosie had no contacts, no real means of exposure. Lil Boosie teamed up with Baton Rouge rapper C-Loc in the late 1990s and made his debut on C-Loc's 5th album, "It's a Gamble", which also featured Three Six Mafia, South Park Mexican, and the rest of the Concentration Camp. This album was a saving grace for C-Loc, as he was slowly losing popularity. Releasing this album put him back in the spotlight, as he had a new young tallented rapper at his side. Baton Rouge couldn't get enough. Shortly afterwards, Boosie released his debut CD, "Youngest of the Camp", which sold over 10,000 units and featured fellow up and coming Baton Rouge rapper Max Minelli, which was exactly what boosie needed to jump start his career. The album spread like wildfire, every hood in Baton Rouge had flyers up for it, everybody was playing it.
After the incarceration, Boosie once again turned back to the streets. Ultimately, his behavior led to him also being incarcerated. At this point, Boosie felt as though he was a failure. However, fate lent Boosie a hand, and Boosie had an opportunity to join an up and coming record label called Trill Entertainment aka Trill Ent which was backed by Pimp-C of UGK. Trill signed Boosie and assisted him in bring his legal issues to an end. Soon after, Boosie and Trill independently released the CD "For my Thugs" under TrillEnt. This release went on to sell over 15,000 copies. Later in the summer of 2003, Boosie co-starred with one of his label-mates, Webbie, on the album "Ghetto Stories" which also went on to sell well over 15,000 copies.
Again paired up with Webbie, Lil Boosie's 2004 release, "Gangsta Musik" is what really gained him popularity. This CD featured the ever popular songs "Swerve" (which later made an appearance in the movie "Hustle and Flow"), "Give Me That", and "Bad Bitch". This was Boosie's first really popular album, actually penetrating the borders of Louisiana and reaching far beyond.
Boosie's talent was now undeniable, and he caught the eye of some Universal Records representatives. In late January of 2005, Boosie signed a deal with Universal, and released the CD "Boosie Bad Azz". This album, backed and promoted by Universal Records, was his strongest yet. Boosie continues to gain popularity at an astonishing rate, and is no stranger to trouble with the law. Already incarcerated for probation violation on drug and gun charges, the Trill Entertainment rapper and two associates (one of them only 17 years old) were indicted on first-degree murder charges by a grand jury on Thursday, June 17, 2010. The men are accused of being involved in the shooting of 35-year-old Terry Boyd in his own house in October. District attorney Hiler Moore stated that the killing seemed to be "over turf" and that if Lil Boosie is convicted the death penalty is not out of the question. The same day, Hatch was also indicted on multiple drug and conspiracy charges for smuggling large amounts of codeine, ecstasy and marijuana into prison with intent to distribute. His girlfriend, a prison guard and a fellow inmate were also charged as co-conspirators. In addition to these charges, prosecutors believe the 27-year-old rapper may have been involved in at least five other slayings.

Let me tell you how I rock, pocket full of rocks, bottle in the air, livin without a care
Let me tell you what I hate, haters with no cake
Let me tell you what I make, money with big stacks
Let me tell you why they hatin, cuz I young , rich, and black
Hoes lick my nutsack, rose by the six pack, skeet that shit off in they mouth (opps!) and I ain't feel bad
Gotta have my funds straight, time flyin gotta have my sons straight so they can shine
Wake up to get it up I hope you on the grind, cuz if you bullshitn' you'll get lapped this time
Im on the money makin mission got me handling bucks
Been countin money for so long my fuckin hands cramp up
Get my keys I be ridin, put my b's in my pocket
Keep ridin dirty cuz the people cant stop it
Chorus
Webbie
Hustlin, 50 streets back against the wall
Scarred up since I was small, ive been through some shit to ball
The heat was on I couldn't stop, I had to let the cannons pop
The Bentleys fallin through the roof and now Im standin at the top
Grindin with my nigga B, finally where im supposed to be
I know my boy watchin over me still I keep my shit close to me
Im doin this for my nigga T, specially for my nigga Mell
Specially for my niggas doin the L and getting outta jail
What ever be good as hell it aint nothin on a nigga plate
Hungry than a motherfucka a hustla eat a nigga face
Imma keep it trill you can chill but time aint gon wait
You betta go head and get your paper before it get to late
Had to set myself straight at to set myself a goal
By 2010 im tryin to have a hundred million more
52 foot ceiling you cant touch it marble on the floor
Webbie trillest nigga I aint doin nothing but get my hustle on
Chorus
Lil trill
Imma start this thing for my dog B, trill fam, trill ent
Deaf kids look up to me so I gotta be all I can be
And I grind hard just to get this far, love my pops for what he did
Never thought I'd be this big, never thought I'd be this kid
I do it big but I keep my stacks
From big money to big racks
You got a check then we can talk, if you aint got it then you can walk
I do my thang betta ask around, chevy whip sittin off the ground
Burnin rubber throughout your town, ohh yeah boy we get it down
No blue cars black cars now, couldn't see me through an ultrasound
Too far like a mile long, im getting money like Mulan
Imma buy a house, buy my own estate
Been hungry eat your whole plate
Never turn on your main mayne or you'll crash like an airplane
Trill fam that's till the end, we all family can be friends
Hustle hard for your dividends, loyalty never defense
That crooked man cant be your friend, betta leave that boy alone
Or he will leave you all alone
Time to start from scratch homes
Chrous.
The song "How We Do It" by Lil Boosie is an anthem of excess and celebration of the trappings of wealth. The lyrics describe a lifestyle of luxury, complete with expensive cars like Phantoms and Lambos, an entourage that can afford the cheapest prices for bottles of liquor, and pockets full of cash. The chorus repeats the phrase "That's how we do it" seven times, highlighting the repetition and definitive nature of this lifestyle, which involves posting up in the club and spending with abandon.
Lil Boosie's verse on the song depicts a life of excess and dominance, where he is free to do as he pleases without fear of consequence. He boasts about his wealth and stature as a young, rich, black man, mentioning his ability to afford six packs of roses and have women perform sexual acts on him without remorse. He emphasizes the importance of staying focused on making money and ensuring his family is taken care of, while also deriding those who are not on the "grind" and will "get lapped."
Webbie's verse continues the theme of hustle, describing a difficult journey to success, where he had to fight against obstacles and keep moving forward. He dedicates his success to his loved ones who have passed away or been incarcerated, and mentions his goals of making millions more in the future. He describes his opulent lifestyle, featuring a 52 foot ceiling and marble floors, but also acknowledges the importance of hard work and setting goals.
In Lil Trill's verse, he carries on the theme of hard work and loyalty, describing his journey to success and warning against those who may try to take advantage of him or his crew. He describes his dedication to his family and being an inspiration to deaf children. He also boasts about his wealth and ability to purchase a house and his own estate. The song overall glorifies a life focused on status and excess, achieved through ruthless hustling and dedication.
