Mystery
Liliac Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Strange thing, you′re taking over me
I feel your cold touch, I've been buried deep
Darkness, it′s such a clever spade
In a clover field, luck is hunting me

There's one more thing inside of me that sets me free

I'm back, I′m back and no, I′ll never be the same
And I know the past is gone, but it's always a mystery

Lightning come and strike me down
And risk your madness, I am bulletproof
Visions painted on the wall
The future′s final call, was it for worth it all?

There's one more thing inside of me that sets me free

I′m back, I'm back and no, I′ll never be the same
And I know the past is gone, but it's always a mystery

Oh, I know the storm is coming closer
And I will dance when the fire dances

The crown restores inequity and justice
For I will stand until the end, it's always a mystery

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the hit song "Mystery" by Liliac are a representation of the universal themes of transformation, resilience, and the introspection that inevitably results from overcoming adversity. The lines, "Strange thing, you're taking over me, I feel your cold touch, I've been buried deep," describe the singer's initial feeling of being overwhelmed and out of control. However, the following lines "Darkness, it's such a clever spade, in a clover field, luck is hunting me," suggest that the singer realizes that this period of darkness might be a catalyst for positive growth, and even if they are encountering bad luck, a stroke of good fortune might be right around the corner.

The chorus, "There's one more thing inside of me that sets me free, I'm back, I'm back and no, I'll never be the same," further reinforces this idea of transformation, growth, and resilience. The singer recognizes that the past is gone and that they may have changed in ways that they cannot yet understand, and while this is somewhat of a mystery to them, they are still standing strong, ready to face whatever comes their way. The final lines of the chorus, "And I know the past is gone, but it's always a mystery," suggest that the singer is at peace with not being able to fully understand or control their experiences and instead chooses to embrace the mystery of life and all that it has to offer.

In the second verse, the image of lightning striking and the line "Risk your madness, I am bulletproof," evokes a sense of fearlessness and a willingness to take on challenges and obstacles head-on. The reference to visions painted on the wall and the future's final call suggests that the singer has a sense of fate or destiny that they are being called towards, even though they might not know what it is.

Overall, "Mystery" is a powerful and inspiring song that speaks to the resilience and determination of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

It's so rare that a band can just own a cover then put out originals that are just as great! I can't decide which of their videos are better...the covers or the originals? Guess I'm just enjoying all of them like so many others. They have something for everyone in their music. They can rock out 80's style for us old geezers and then bring it into this era for the younger fans. Fun for everyone!!!!
