@P. Allen Smith, I'd love to hear an update on how they did--the ones you planted (pot-less) in the ground! I'm in 8a and planted a few of the Southern Living varieties last year. So far, it looks like all of them survived winter and early spring frosts, and many have started pushing new growth.

I've been growing Agapanthus for 10 in containers around my pool in southeast Georgia. They never die back, bloom beautifully and multiply like crazy.

I am in 7b/8a (depends on which map you look at). I planted these in ground about two years ago and they have thrived in a shady part of my garden that gets a lot of flooding during the summer. I love the blooms. They will get more sun this year since I finally cut back the nearby crepe myrtles.

They have not died back despite a few hard freezes. Leaves are green all year. There are several planted at the front of my neighborhood. They blooms get very big. At least four feet from the ground. I think they have been there for many many years.

I have Agapanthus here in East Texas (Zone 8b). They have done great in the ground every year until this year. The top part froze during this last snow and freezing temps for a week. I'm praying the roots are still alive. We'll see.

@Reypeg

Same here in Louisiana.

Good luck.

@Sara W Thank you !

I'm in rockport tx, and mine froze down all the way as well, but they are already popping up new growth. I have very sandy soil not sure if that helped save them.

Mine is coming back up. Don't know about blooms. I am in zone 8a.

So true. When I visited Venezuela, these lilies were growing "wild " in the mountain areas. I thought surely I can grow them here in the high desert. Well you have challenged me to give it another try. I'll keep them in containers and move them to my garage in the cold winter. Thank you. I love the agapanthus.
