You got me like that, you know I'm to blame
And you got me like that, every girl's the same
Every girl's the same, with number one
The first guy,
Fake a smile then all the damage is done
Cryin' all night
Started out doin' fine in the beginning every time,
I belonged to you
You possessed me with your lies
Controlled me with good byes
I wasn't getting through
How should I be myself today
What colour should I wear
I promise I'll co-operate
If you don't leave me here
Every girl's the same, with number one
The first guy,
Fake a smile then all the damage is done
Cryin' all night
you got me like that, you're what I'm craving
You got me like that, you know I'm to blame
And you got me like that, every girl's the same
Fall into your game
Tell me what is wrong with me
How couldnt you forsee
Us being happily
Who am I in me and you
Got reading up to do
He's just not that into you
Why do I hate myself today
It's because of what you said
I've put in so much energy
You never even cared
Every girl's the same, with number one
The first guy,
Fake a smile then all the damage is done
Cryin' all night
you got me like that, you're what I'm craving
You got me like that, you know I'm to blame
Cause every girl's the same, fall into your...
shoot me up with one more lie
Nothing could blow our night tonight
Come jack me up with one more lie
Gotta get enough before I die
you got me like that, you're what I'm craving
You got me like that, you know I'm to blame
And you got me like that, every girl's the same
you got me like that, you're what I'm craving
You got me like that, you know I'm to blame
And you got me like that, yeah we're all the same
Every girl's the same, with number one
The first guy,
Fake a smile then all the damage is done
Cryin' all night
Every girl's the same, with number one
The first guy,
Fake a smile then all the damage is done
Cryin' all night
Every girl's the same
The song "Every Girl" by Lillix is a commentary on the universal struggle of young women who struggle to adhere to society's expectations of how they should look and act in order to attract and keep a boyfriend. The first verse sets the tone for the rest of the song by describing how the singer is "craving" someone they know is no good for them, but they can't help themselves. The second verse goes further into the toxic relationship, where insecurity and low self-esteem are constantly arising out of the relationship. The chorus emphasizes that the same story is repeated with every girl, where they put all their effort and trust into a guy only to get heartbroken and cry all night. The bridge touches on the frustration of not being able to be herself and impress a guy who never cared about her, leading to self-hatred.
The song resonates with many young women who have gone through similar experiences in their lives. It highlights the emotional turmoil young women face when trying to conform with societal expectations while also trying to be themselves. This struggle is exemplified in the lines, "How should I be myself today? What color should I wear?" These lyrics reflect how women feel they need to mold themselves to fit in, be liked by others, and have someone interested in them, instead of just being themselves.
The song's music arrangement is built around a pop-rock beat with catchy hooks and grooves that stay with the listener long after hearing it. The lyrics add personality to the tune, which makes it relatable to so many young women. The song received high praise, with critics commending its sharp lyrics and the infectious energy brought by the band's terrific performance, which helped it climb the charts and earn a place as a cult favorite among listeners.
