The song originally appeared on her MySpace page in 2008 alongside the songs "I Could Say" and "I Don't Know" (now known as "The Fear"), the song appeared under the title "Guess Who Batman". The song's title was then changed to "Get Wit the Brogram", it was later changed to "GWB".
Allen wrote that:
“This song is not a direct attack at anyone, it was originally written about the BNP in the UK but then I felt this issue has become relevant pretty much everywhere, we are the youth, we can make coolness for our future, its up to us. Go green and hate hate.”
However, the song might seem like a direct attack at George W. Bush and his politics. The lyrics contain common criticisms of the former American president, such as accusations of small-mindedness and warmongering. The first letters of the words in the original titles were also the same as president Bush's initials: "Guess Who Batman" and George Walker Bush.
The song was later re-titled as its current name "Fuck You". The song has also been titled as "F**k You", which is the censored version of the song. The song was written by Lily Allen and Greg Kurstin.
The song debuted at 37 in Canada, it has so far charted higher than "Smile" (86) but not as high as "The Fear" (33) despite not being released as an actual single. The song debut at 68 on the US Billboard Hot 100, it has so far charted higher than "The Fear" (80). The song charted at 154 in the UK, it is one of two songs on Lily's new album not to be released as a single but charted, the other one is "Everyone's at It" that charted at 117 on the UK Singles Chart. So, it states that "Fuck You" is actually more successful that most of Allen's previous singles, although it is not an actual single yet. In The Netherlands, the song debuted at 52 and jumped to 11 the next week on the Mega Top 100 and was released as the official second single from the album. "Fuck You" reached the No. 1 spot on iTunes Netherlands and iTunes Finland. "Fuck You" to date is Allen's biggest hit single so far in the Netherlands reaching number #3 on the Dutch Top 40, seven spots higher than her biggest hit so far: "Smile". According to Billboard magazine for the date 23rd May the song was Number 1 in the Netherlands, Belgium and Finland.

Look inside your tiny mind
Now look a bit harder
'Cause we're so uninspired
So sick and tired
Of all the hatred you harbour
So you say
It's not okay to be gay
Well, I think you're just evil
You're just some racist
Who can't tie my laces
Your point of view is medieval
Fuck you (Fuck you)
Fuck you very, very much
'Cause we hate what you do
And we hate your whole crew
So, please don't stay in touch
Fuck you (Fuck you)
Fuck you very, very much
'Cause your words don't translate
And it's getting quite late
So, please don't stay in touch
Do you get
Do you get a little kick
Out of being small-minded?
You want to be like your father
It's approval you're after
Well, that's not how you find it
Do you
Do you really enjoy
Living a life that's so hateful?
'Cause there's a hole where your soul should be
You're losing control a bit
And it's really distasteful
Fuck you (Fuck you)
Fuck you very, very much
'Cause we hate what you do
And we hate your whole crew
So, please don't stay in touch
Fuck you (Fuck you)
Fuck you very, very much
'Cause your words don't translate
And it's getting quite late
So, please don't stay in touch
Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you
Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you
Fuck you...
You say
You think we need to go to war
Well, you're already in one
'Cause it's people like you
That need to get slew
No one wants your opinion
Fuck you (Fuck you)
Fuck you very, very much
'Cause we hate what you do
And we hate your whole crew
So, please don't stay in touch
Fuck you (Fuck you)
Fuck you very, very much
'Cause your words don't translate
And it's getting quite late
So, please don't stay in touch
Fuck you (Fuck you)
Fuck you (Fuck you)
Fuck you (Fuck you)
Fuck you (Fuck you)
Fuck you (Fuck you)
The lyrics to Lily Allen's "Fuck you" are a powerful message of defiance and resistance against bigotry and prejudice. The song speaks to those who hold backward views, and who feel justified in spewing their hateful words or actions upon others. The song's chorus, "Fuck you very, very much," is an unabashed middle finger to those who perpetuate discrimination, intolerance, and hate.
The first lines of the song, "Look inside your tiny mind, now look a bit harder, 'cause we're so uninspired. So sick and tired of all the hatred you harbour," call out those who fail to see beyond their narrow-minded views. Allen points out that hate breeds more hate, and that it's exhausting for those who must constantly deal with its consequences.
The second verse tackles the issue of homophobia head-on, with Allen confronting those who seek to deny the rights of the LGBTQ community. She sings, "So you say it's not okay to be gay, well, I think you're just evil, you're just some racist who can't tie my laces. Your point of view is medieval." Here, Allen takes aim at those who use religion or tradition as a shield against progress, calling them out as outdated and harmful.
The song's bridge is perhaps the most pointed, with Allen singing, "You say you think we need to go to war, well, you're already in one, 'cause it's people like you that need to get slew. No one wants your opinion." Here, she takes pains to remind her audience that words have consequences, and to call out those who believe that their perspective is the only one that matters.
Overall, Allen's "Fuck you" is a timely reminder that hate and intolerance are never acceptable, and that those who seek to perpetuate them will always be met with resistance.
