Come to me
Lily Madeleine Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ohh
Ohh
If the sky was falling over us
If the ground below was turn to dust
Would you come to me?
Would you come to me?

If the song it had me overcome
To try me low can sometimes shake me up
Would you come to me?
Would you come to me?

Ohh
Ohh
If your heart is burning like the sun (burning like the sun)
If it beats
That you will have to run
If it takes leaving everyone
Would you come to me?

Ohh
Ohh
Ohh
Ohh

If the birds stops singing in the tree
Would you come to me?

Overall Meaning

The song "Come To Me" by Lily and Madeleine touches upon the theme of love and loyalty. It starts with the questions "If the sky was falling over us" and "If the ground below was turn to dust" and asks the listener if they would come to the singer in case of danger or chaos. The chorus of the song repeats the same question, "Would you come to me?", implying the importance of having someone to rely on in tough situations. The second verse continues with the idea of emotional distress, where the singer asks if the listener would come to her if they were feeling low and needed someone. The bridge talks about the need for emotional support, where the lyrics, "If your heart is burning like the sun, If it beats that you will have to run, If it takes leaving everyone," ask if the listener would come to the singer even if it meant leaving their current situation.

Overall, the song talks about the need for emotional support from a partner in times of crisis and emotional turmoil. The lyrics ask for someone who would be loyal, trustworthy, and stand by the singer’s side in need. The strength of the song lies in its simplicity; despite the absence of complex metaphors and literary devices, the song stands out for its straightforward and heartfelt lyrics that express vulnerability in a way that is relatable to many.

If anyone's curious, the books in the box are:
"Watership Down" by Richard Adams
"A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeleine L'Engle
"Slaughterhouse Five" by Kurt Vonnegut
"The Future of the Future" by John McHale
"Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll
"Black Hole and Baby Universes and Other Essays" by Stephen King
"On the Road" by Jack Kerouac
"The Second World War: Closing the Ring" by Winston Churchill

There seems to be a unifying theme here--parallel universes, futuristic/utopian/dystopian societies, pioneers, politics...idk if that helps with interpretation of the video, but hey. lol

The best music is always on the fringes and this just proves it.

@IAmJopert

i was curious!

@afrosheenix

I think it's simpler than that. These are standard books that American kids are exposed to throughout childhood and adolescence. The set and setting of the "typical American suburb" underscores this theme. I dunno, it's art, anyone can interpret it however.
