Too Shy
Limahl Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Time
Tongue-tied or short of breath, don't even try
Try a little harder
Something's wrong, you're not naive, you must must be strong
Ooh, baby, try

Hey girl
Move a little closer

'Cause you're too shy shy, hush-hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy, hush-hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy, hush-hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy, hush-hush

Modern medicine falls short of your complaint
Try a little harder
You're moving in circles, won't you dilate?
Ooh, baby try

Hey girl
Move a little closer

'Cause you're too shy shy, hush-hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy, hush-hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy, hush-hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy, hush-hush

You're too shy shy, hush-hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy, hush-hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy, hush-hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy, hush-hush
Too shy shy, hush-hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy, hush-hush, eye to eye
Too shy shy, hush-hush, eye to eye

Too shy shy, hush-hush
Too shy shy, hush-hush, eye to eye

Overall Meaning

The song "Too Shy" by Limahl, the former lead singer of the band Kajagoogoo, is an upbeat pop song about the struggles of approaching someone you are attracted to. The opening line "Time, tongue-tied or short of breath, don't even try" sets the tone for the rest of the song, as the singer is feeling unsure of himself and apprehensive about making his move. However, the chorus encourages him to "try a little harder" and move closer to the person he is interested in.

The line "Modern medicine falls short of your complaint" suggests that the singer is struggling with some sort of anxiety or apprehension, which is preventing him from making a move. However, he is determined to overcome this obstacle and pursue the person he is attracted to. The repetition of "Too shy shy, hush-hush, eye to eye" in the chorus emphasizes the singer's struggle with shyness and the need to overcome it in order to connect with another person.

Overall, "Too Shy" is a fun, catchy pop song that captures the nervous excitement of approaching someone you are attracted to. The song encourages the singer to overcome his shyness and make a move, leading to the possibility of a deeper connection with another person.

I'm a white dude from the suburbs in a country literally from the other side of the planet. I like this song too. I also like some hip hop songs. Should I tell African Americans that I like their music as well?
Its a cool song, regardless of your race or where you are from.

Why do Americans break stuff down like this. Just say "I enjoy this song" . Stop with your identity politics FFS. Why do Americans do this? Its like a fkn disease.

Most people don’t realize how complex those bass lines are. He put notes in there that are not supposed to go together & he made them work. Nick Beggs is a genius & an underrated bass player. Long live the 80s.
