Counterfeit
Limp Bizkit(림프 비즈킷) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Freakin' me out you wear a mask called counterfeit,

You're freakin' me out you wear a mask [Repeat: x5]

Freakin' me out you wear a mask called counterfeit,
You're freakin' me out you wear a... fake
Hey man wake up and smell the concrete
Strange to see you've changed like the LB

Could be identity crisis but I can't buy this
Reality bites but that's what life is
Pitiful you, your hideous behavior
Hate what God gave ya, fakin all the flava

Artificial minds seekin out the new trends
Get in where you fit in
Quit thinkin like a has-been diggin in my culture

Let me let your punks know I'm an old school soldier
With the funk flow
A damn shame you want to change yourself

[Chorus]
Because you're sick of yourself
Well I'm sick of you too, fake
You're a, a counterfeit, fake
You know we figured you out
Well I'm sick of you too, fake
You're a, a counterfeit, fake

I wonder, I wonder
I wonder what it's like to be a clone
Doin' nothin, nothin' on my own
Alone in your misery, you're bitin on my new style

Filed as a counterfeit, going down in history as nothin but a copy cat (copy cat)
So if your fakin that you're phat you need a ballbat
Right where your head is at
All your desperation causes separation

Now I grab the mic to intimidate
Your weakness screams from the limb on your siren
Phonies get the hint quick smacked with funk flick
Pain for the fakers fame can't maintain

[Chorus]

All these phonies
You disregarded your life (disregaurded your life)
You disrespected your friends (you disrespected your friends)
You've even stolen your appearance (stolen) from hangin out with my family

But I should have never dropped my guard (shoulda never dropped my gaurd)
So you could stab me in the back (stab me in the back)
But you were faking me out (you were faking me out)
Just faking me out you wear a mask (you wear a mask)

Freaking me out you wear a mask called counterfeit, you're freaking me out you

Wear a mask called counterfeit [Repeat: x2]

Freaking me out you wear a mask called counterfeit [Repeat: x4]

Now you're steadily startin to change
You want to rearrange your lifestyle with live like the wild child
With the vibe alive you could lie to try and be so fly
A lie but you deny you're a fake

You know we figured you're a phony (fake)
You know we figured you out (fake)
You know we figured you out, figured you out, figured you out
Fake (a bunch of times)

You're probably freaking me out (a bunch of times)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Limp Bizkit's song "Counterfeit" express a feeling of frustration and disgust towards someone who is pretending to be someone they are not, wearing a figurative mask of counterfeit behavior. The singer questions the motives behind this behavior, wondering if it's due to an identity crisis or simply a desire to fit in with a new trend. He criticizes the person's lack of originality and their attempt to imitate his "new style," which he sees as a form of flattery but also disrespectful.

The chorus emphasizes the singer's disdain for this counterfeit behavior, stating that he is sick of this person and figuring them out as a fake. He calls them out on their desperate need for fame and recognition, which only leads to further separation from real connections and relationships. The bridge of the song adds a personal element to the lyrics, as the singer reflects on his own mistakes of not being more guarded against this person's fake behavior and how it led to him being stabbed in the back.

Overall, "Counterfeit" is a song that critiques the societal pressure to conform and the negative effects of pretending to be someone you are not. It calls for authenticity and originality, encouraging listeners to be true to themselves and not fall for the trap of counterfeit behavior.

The best thing I loved about all these dudes like Fred Durst/Wes Borland, Jonathan Davis, Corey Taylor, Chino Moreno etc is that they were unafraid to be themselves and were total originals. People talked a lot of shit about nu-metal but when you look back on it now, they did something new, that they loved, and they did it with their best friends. That rules.

@LuisLopez-id4zc

Thats the point

@ahhwe-any7434

Bitching, angry, upset, over emotional, snappy & blah. Yep, im in this hell w/ yall as well 🤗, fr. Hello 👋.

@billyalarie929

the problem started when it was fucking force fed down our fucking throats. to the point that new jacks were forced to try to emulate that shit but failed MISERABLY.

and if you read the lyrics to this song, it's one of the hardest songs in all of rock music.

@megaton_a

I still say Wes Borland is a tragically underrated guitarist.

@voided_reality6863

Absolutely, just like Adam Jones never really gets any recognition either. It's sad that only cookie-cutter mainstream guitarists like boring ass Zakk Wylde for one example, get all the attention.

@NGDemonSlayer12

He's so underrated he's overrated by all the people that say he's underrated.

@henrikpersson4698

@rocket grunt i'd agree that he's underrated in the sense that he's not recognized for his skill on his own, the way certain other guitarists are. he did have massive success with his band, no-one can deny that.
